Jason Varitek filed for free agency today. But I, don't think Boston is going to let hi get away.
I was looking over a list of free agents that have filed so far and ones I thought were of interest. My thought is that we are going to need a catcher. I know that the team isn't going to want to pay more than what they would have given Paul LoDuca which would be around 6 Million this season I am guessing. There are 13 available. Of course two of them are ours, Mayne and Hundley if you want to call him a catcher. There is Alomar, Jr., Stinnett, Henry Blanco, Flaherty, Damian Miller, Brook Fordyce, Greg Myers, Paul Bako, Todd Greene, Einer Diaz and Todd Pratt. I am assuming that this catcher with either split time with Ross or will be either the starter or back up. I like Alomar because we can probably get him for around a million and he and Ross can split the time. I also like Henry Blanco, who was in our farm system as well as Damian Miller and Einer Diaz. I'm not too sure what the road is that the Dodgers want to take though. As for pitchers, so far these are the ones that are interesting to me. Derek Lowe hasn't filed yet so he is not on the list. I like Brad Radke, Esteban Loaiza, Shawn Estes, Russ Ortiz who is from the Southern California area, Matt Clement and Kevin Millwood. Of course it would all depend how much these guys are looking for and for how long. Also, the Angels have announced that they are cutting ties with Troy Glaus. I am only mentioning this if for some reason we don't re sign Adrian Beltre because Troy would like to stay in the Southern California area but wants to play third, not first or DH. The Angels are going to go with Dallas McPherson there and are going to concentrate on a center fielder most notably Carlos Beltran. Vlad's presence on that team might sway Carlos to come there. It ought to be interesting. I mean, I never thought that Vlad would be an Angel.Kristin
