Jose Canseco will not be offered a contract from the Dodgers. This doesn't
surprise me one bit really. The only reason why I would think the team would
even consider it would be because of his name but as we all know, he is way
past his prime. I mean, when he was in his prime and it would take him at
least all of April, playing everyday to warm up, how long would it take him now?
There's a reason why the Expos, (the Expos!) released him and why the Angels
did and why there was no spot on the White Sox roster and why no one else
wanted him. I am starting to believe what Tim Salmon said when Jose was at
Spring
Training with the Angels a few years back, that he has lost bat speed. I was
mad at him for that comment at the time because I have always loved Jose but
he is done and I do believe that when the Angels released him, he was pretty
much done. Yes, I am sure that injuries definitely kept him for reaching 500
career homeruns but its possible that if he didn't use steroids, his body might
not have broken down as much as it did but that's all in the past and none of
it can be changed. He just needs to put the baseball part of his life behind
him and look towards his new life and whatever he decides to do. 500 homeruns
still wasn't going to guarantee him a spot in the Hall of Fame anyway.
