Good news to me...also for someone on the downside of his career, I forgot he hit over .300 last season and did have 20 homeruns. Kristin
Kent’s injury not serious, but Dodgers second baseman will sit out some games
VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP)—Dodgers second baseman Jeff Kent said his pulled hamstring did not require any tests and he will be back hitting on Friday—his 40th birthday.
Kent injured his right hamstring while sprinting during pregame warmups Wednesday at the New York Mets’ spring training facility and likely won’t play for a week. He
felt no pain Thursday after getting checked out by Dodgers trainers, and he planned to lift weights later in the day.
The 16-year major league veteran will refrain from running for the next week.
“It’s just tight,” Kent said. “I’ve done this many times. If it was a game situation I would probably play tomorrow, but it’s not. It’s spring training.”
A different warmup routine may have caused the injury, Kent said. Los Angeles held batting practice at Dodgertown before making the 45-minute bus ride to the game because the fields were wet at the Mets’ complex early in the day.
Kent said sitting on the bus for so long in one position made it difficult to warm up a second time.
“I should have known better,” Kent said.
Coming off a season in which he hit .302 with a team-best 20 homers, Kent could become the club’s first 40-year-old to appear in an opening-day lineup. But he said age
has nothing to do why he got hurt.
“You get fired up and then you go sit in one position for a while and then you try to fire it up again. That would promote injury for any player,” Kent said.
