I am thinking of doing this ride. I want to talk by phone with people
who have done it. I am a 54 year old man, live near Boulder, have done
several Ride-the-Rockies, a cross-USA ride, and run marathons, but not
something like this. Please email off-list or call 303-440-4838.

Yeah, Day 2 climb, middle chain ring, it might have left
some grease on my leg while I was pushing my bike up the
mountain.
Or, are you referring to the shuttle van that tried to do the
singletrack trail in its middle chain ring? It was a classic
moment when Tom (Atlanta group) took the steering wheel to assist the
driver (who was down-under the vehicle to re-arrange the landscape so
both rear tires contacted earth), then looked around at the van, the
road, the situation and said: "I better wear my helmet".
The bike ride/walk to Camp 2 was great. I'm glad I didn't miss
it.
That day will go down in biking history!

In keeping with tradition we’ll stick with the Le
Mans-style registration, but this year all the spots will go on the chopping
block at the same time – you’ll have the option to sign up for
either weekend as you choose. Swapping can then occur willy-nilly between
y’all up to a cut-off date.
Registration got messy last year b/c we added the second
trip late.
New this year, all the registrations will be handled by
Active.com, should be easier for you all.

Alex -
Last year the first list sold out in an unbelievable two hours. There
was then a supplemental weekend and a multitude of emails explaining
how to trade spots, etc. I was so confused.
I would suggest that the sign up list is more for the power to select
the weekend you want to ride. If you are in the top 40, you would have
the first right to the weekend of your choice. The second 40, the next
choice, etc., until you are out of weekends. Swapping can then happen
between consenting adults after the dust settles. Wait, that came out
wrong....LOL

Hi Alex
Many thanks for that information. It allows some of us
up here above the 49th parallel to look forward to
some epic rides.

Great news on the Salida ride. I was unable to participate this year, primarily due to the short notice. If there is such a thing as a Bikerpelli-ish 'wake up call' for the ride please put me on it.
Thanks.

Gary –
The September trip turned out fine – it was just an experiment on a particular route in the Salida area, we took 10 folks with us. After the trip I reworked a couple pieces of the route & came up with what we think will be a phenomenal 3 days of riding for next August, so yes, we’ll be offering that trip for 2007 too.
The problem with the route as originally planned was the 2nd day – nothing to write home about. After some extended recon work we found about 12 miles of hidden singletrack descending with a gonzo technical option for those willing that really brings the weekend together into a coherent whole.
So the trip now revolves around the theme of knock out the climbs on consistent grade, moderate climbing on jeep rd & abandoned narrow-gauge rail line while doing all the descending on intense singletrack. The route goes high, crosses the Continental Divide twice, passes thru a couple ghost towns & historic spots, the singletrack is the kind of riding you feel deep in your gut as you sweep thru trees in the turns, miles of berm-pumping & threading-the-needle.
OK, that’s me being dramatic. The idea was to create three days of riding similar to the Monarch Crest Trail – arguably the finest ride in the state. I believe we’ve got that. This trip is considerably less difficult than Bikerpelli, it avgs about 30 mi per day. Playing with permits right now, we’ll know this winter how it’ll shake out. I’ll keep you posted.
We’re also working on our Boulder-area road ride for late July as well, The Peak to Peak Century.
Oh, and some late-breaking news. We’ve been playing with new names to house all the events under. The final decision? Middle Chainring Sports. Those of you that’ve been around a while will get a kick out of that I’m sure.

Welcome Carl, glad to have
you aboard for ’07. I can promise you lots of great miles followed
by cold beers under an amazing sunset, plenty of like-minded MTB’ers
around a campfire who never let the truth interfere with telling a good story,
and some of the best camp meals you’ll ever experience. It’ll
be a great start to your season.
Is it just you from the MD area? We’ve noticed the
east-coasters travel in groups, the Atlanta crew claims they
have 40 riders ready to sign up!
This discussion group tends to go into hibernation until
January or so – maybe we wore them out? – keep your eyes open for a
wake-up call around the holidays.

Hey Norm,
What a memory you have, thanks so much for remembering!
It was great, but I partied for too many days after, now I am
recovering from that too!
How was the Shiraz?

The old 1996ish Living-X Team bike is dead.
Just a week after bikerpelli#1 and 1.5 days after aquiring a 2003
Specialized Epic named, "the queen of the pawn shop," I was commuting
in on the old Living-X bike and the chainstay snapped on a tiny bump
with a little turn on it.
Bikerpelli really was the retirement ride for that bike. I'm fortunate
it held together to the end.
So long living-X bike; we had some great times. Thanks for hanging
tough through all of Bikerpelli for me.

Sure thing, there's another hundred or so where those came from!
I'll put them on a cd and mail you a copy.

Thank you for a memorable trip. It hard, it was easy, it kicked my butt. I enjoyed the trip so much I plan on doing it again, hopefully next year.
To all of my companions on the ride, I am not the best with names but I remember a few, Larry, John, Eric, Elaine, and many more. You made the trip a lot of fun.
I complained of a pain in my foot every day. On Tuesday I went to a podiatrist. Explained the problem. He knew exactly what it was and we scheduled surgery for November after golf and biking season are mostly over here in Utah. Next year I plan to be 30lbs lighter and no foot pain. Going to ride hard.
Eric and friends and the other party who shared their water with me on Day 3 Thank. I never would have made it that day without the extra water. I figure on Saturday with pre-ride drinks,
ride drinks, and post ride drinks I think I drank about 400 oz of liquid and I was still thirsty.
Thanks to all.
I have pictures but don't know how to post so if you would like to see them, send me an email at alpine61@...

It was a great ride because of people like you. Overall it was a great group to ride with.

You guys are the best! OPP delivered.. I mean you covered all bases-
hill climbing, screaming descents(rose garden cleaning ,porcupine)
fuzzy jock strap streaking and electromagnetic stories and most of all
your enduring personalities. A real pleasure to be around. Thanks for
waiting up for me and hope to cross paths again. I think I should get
up to leadville for some more inspiration from Ken. I'll send you that

Hey Alex, Just stopped laughing. Nice try though, that looks steep. Thanks for great trip. Hopefully I can convince my brother to come out next year. Any thoughts about a white rim trip or maybe the colorado trail as a whole or through some of the nicer sections with the hot springs. Maybe I'll see you on the trail in
Boulder!!!!!!! Thanks again, Chris Goffredo
