Yea it was a while ago but the new frame was just a few $ more than
that (I think he was glad to get rid of his last one) and I kept the
old one thinking I might have to repair it too.
Thanks I'll check out eBay and craigslist and all - I was just hoping
someone had a back room full of them - and would let them go for a
song... ;-)

The seats don't break because of a pack but because they were designed wrong. If the replacement seat is the better design then you will have no trouble. Avoiding the pack does nothing to improve the chance of the earlier seats to survive.
If you are very concerned you can bolt a panel of plywood to the tail of the frame to support the pack better.
I bought a soft cooler (12 pack size) with a shoulder strap and I have it resting on the tail and hanging from the top of the seat. Works very well for a long day trip with several meals worth of food and gear.

Does anyone know of a source? Used is fine.
Does anyone know of a substitute model that could be made to work?
Does anyone have any other ideas? I do have a pair of "Accessory Mounting Brackets" available - these might work with a traditional rack but they'd have to go in front of the seat and I'm not sure how it would play with the chain.

Or behind. I have a Burley Moose Rack mounted behind the seat using a
BikeE Burley Piccolo Adapter.

Copy the address of the page that contains the video you want to save. Paste it into the download box under the page logo and click Download. Below, it will either tell you the site is not supported or give you a list of all videos embedded in the page. The main video is typically first on the list. Right-click on it and choose "Save link as" or "Save target as". I use VLC to play the files.

Lee,
the videos can be downloaded from YouTube as Quicktime files & saved
to disc or burned to CD.
They are low resolution on Youtube though, so I agree it would be nice
to have the originals!

Hello All,
I can identify the recumbent in the ad. As the ad says, it is a Bigha;-) Well,
technically it is a Bigha prototype. I know, it's mine. This was one of the
first Bighas built and was used to verify the geometry and for other testing.
The geometry is correct, as are the aesthetics and frame extrusion. The swing
arm is a weldment versus the bonded Bigha unit. The seat rail is a BikeE
extrusion and was used because the Bigha seat interface wasn't finalized at the
time of the prototype build. The rest of the components were from current
inventory.
A few notes:
* Avid and Hayes mechanical disc brakes were in production during the last
year(s) of BikeE.
* DualDrive prototypes (not sure of production parts) were available to
manufacturers.
* The trailer hitch is one of the earlier Burley trailer hitch mounts.
* I hope the bike looks better than a BikeE:-) Significant work was done with
an industrial design firm.
Spring seems to have finally arrived here in Wisconsin. I hope everyone is
getting out to enjoy some rides. Feel free to contact me offline if you are
still curious about my Bigha/BikeE.
Regards,
Ted

Here's an interesting BikeE on Craigslist. the owner says it is one
that was made before BigHa broke off from BikeE. Kind of a BikeE BigHa
hybrid. He has some nice high quality photos of it.

Wow. That's kinda bizarre. There can't be many of
those at all out there, because by the time BiGHa started selling them
at retail, the concept was full blown (and full-priced too). If
they'd actually branded them BikeE, I'm guessing the creditors of the
defunct company would have been on them like white on rice.
But you can see all these are CLWB (Compact Long Wheel Base). As far as I know BikeE only made CLWB. The images are of a SWB (Short Wheel Base).
It is very nicely made; so nicely in fact that it makes me wonder if it is some other production SWB with the BikeE name on it. Also the components are more contemporary than BikeE which collapsed before many cable actuated disc brakse were available. Reviewing the linked images above shows that the BikeE had no disc brakes at all. Dual Drive rear hubs are too new for BikeEs - only the 3x7 SRAM was available then. Nothing about the frame materials looks like a BikeE. It is painted not anodized. It has a trailer hitch on the left side.
They do have a low back BikeE seat on it. The front crank is from a Bike E (you can see the BikeE symbol embossed on it). The mid-drive looks like BikeE.
It looks much better than any BikeE. It would be nice if a recumbent dealer could ID it. Peter Stull, or Mike Libric, maybe. It might be a home built. Maybe a prototype? I have no idea why anyone would afix the BikeE name to a non-BikeE. The decal is even the correct shape.
Some historical notes: BigHa did not break off from BikeE. BikeE collapsed. BigHa was formed and designed and unrelated recumbent with a similar form and aspect - a CLWB. The target audience was also different and the results not close at all. The sales number of BigHa are a fraction of BikeE. $$ makes a difference. A lot fewer FX sold thatn CT for the same reason.
