Re: [BikeE] new to Bike E

Hi Denny,
I hope you enjoy your CT as much as I have loved my Bike E AT over the past nine years.  While we all know it's a great commuting bike, I have used it for touring all over the world (across the USA, New Zealand, Europe, parts of Canada, etc) and it has worked like a charm.  At close to 70 years old now I sometimes walk up the last mile of a steep mountain, I wouldn't trade mine for any other bike on the market.  I had a Tour Easy for several years but kept coming back to using my Bike E for its size and great ride. It was just so much easier to ride and especially transport on the plane.

For your bike bag you night get a plastic or light metal support that holds the bag securely on the bike. I normally carry about 40 pounds with two panniers below the seat, the bike bag, and a tent (in a rainproof) container on top of the bike bag.  I love the steadiness of this rig, especially going down hill at speeds of 35-40 miles per hour.  I never would have done that on my road bikes as they all shimied on me and just were lots of work to brake down the hill.

So, have a great time on your Bike E.  Welcome to the club!  Best regards,  David (currently in Amman, Jordan)

Howdy Bike E types -
Just got a Bike E CT that was barely used - completely stock, no
upgrades. It was sitting in a garage for about 2 years after the owner
bought it and then promptly broke her foot doing something else.
Got this after researching bikes for touring and switched from a REI
Randonee to this Bike E. Now I am in the process of trying so set it up
for medium touring. I found this company in the Netherlands that make
some 'behing the seat' bags and panniers that look like they might work
very well on a Bike E Check them out here

Just checking to see if any members here have seen them or might using
them on their Bike E.  I am also open to any other suggestions for
touring and setting up on a Bike E that you might like to offer.
Just ordered fenders, tail-light and mirror so far; nothing else. I am
in Sebastopol, CA waiting for the weather to improve!
Denny

I wouldn't be using side panniers mounted to the seat, but rather low and below the seat with the weight held by the frame and no seat structures. Unless you...
