my bike  came with  a kickstand also... but i've found that i've had to extend it another  4" ...
i never could get a computer to work on my bike either...

My BikeE came with a kickstand so my suggestion would be to look at other bikes and see what they have.  Never had a lick of problems with it.
Read the instructions that came with you computer as each one is a bit different as far as setting a computer with a smaller wheel.

Anybody have any good ideas about rigging a kickstand? Also, does anyone know what I need to set the computer for the front wheel? There's no way I'm doing 30...

The computer I use on my BikeE is a $10 schwinn from Walmart, I just extended the wire and sealed the connections with heatshrink tubing. It seems to work...
