Re: [BikeE] Opinions on E2

My wife and I have ridden our E2 since they first came out, and we thoroughly enjoy it. We used to ride a tandem mountain bike, witch I heavily adapted to try to make it more comfortable, but it didn't even come close to the comfort of the E2. We like to do weekend tours on the bike, and with some adaptions, have managed to get 2 BikeE seat bags, and two pairs of panniers on the bike, as well as a small tool bag and a handlebar bag; so it is very packable (I'd be happy to share my bag set-up with you if you purchase one).

The negatives are that the bike is a bit heavy, a bit bouncy in the front (though I've considered a pantor suspension hub to help with this), and it's a bit slow, mainly I think due to the weight and the small wheels. But I've never felt like I was in a race when I ride anyway. The bike is, at first, a bit squirly (on our first ride I drove us into a canal). But with a little practice the bike become very easy to steer, and, due to it's strange looking, but very functional short wheelbase, can fit where other tandems won't. (We ride a canal path that has some sharp turns fenced in and we now wiz though them, my diamond-framed tandem would have never managed it).

I highly recommend the E2. But, if you have a recumbent dealer nearby, it wouldn't be a bad idea to take some test rides, just to see how they feel.

I own a bike e at and love it. I had two of them, one black and one blue and my ex has the other one I think unless she gave it away. If you can find one I say go for it, but anything bike e made was very well thought of and built.  Not sure why they went under, but they had a good product in my book. I have never ridden a bike e tandem but have ridden tandems. And as long as the other person is putting the same leg power as you are or close to it then it should be fun. If you do get this bike make sure you get it with a sweet seat. I myself have a bad back and lately I been putting about 2 or 3 hours a day on it. And going up a hill used to be a bare and now I don't even breath hard anymore, so I know I'm getting in a little shape. My bike e is so comfortable I never get tired of riding it. And once you get on one you will see what I mean, its a very relaxing feeling. Good luck and hopefully you will find one. Jimmi

My wife and I have two standard tandem bikes, but I've been having back
problems lately, so we're considering buying a recumbent tandem.

We haven't ridden much for a few years, but want to do the Houston to
Austin (180 miles in two days) ride in the spring.

Does anyone here have any experience with or opinion on the BikeE E2?

Thanks,
Chris
