Bike route signs wouldn't help me with a flat tire or dehydration either,
but getting lost has been a major problem while biking in western Nassau
County when clouds hid the Sun, and I sure did wish for a marked bike
route. On the other hand day trips to eastern Nassau and western Suffolk
Counties are more a matter of stamina, at least for this Manhattanite.

Region 10 of NYSDoT (Nassau & Suffolk Counties) has a bicycle
coordinator. He's a good suspect. There are also official Departmental
maps of Bike Routes 17 and 15 from Lake Erie to New England, of Bike
Route 9 from NYC to Quebec, and of some Long Island routes. I haven't
gone to their Veterans Memorial Highway headquarters to get those maps,
or even seen them.

I hope to join a group trip to Paramus, NJ tomorrow but might have to
stay home for an errand.
