thinkin.I'm sure Gary and Jon also.Jon does the 3speed
tour(http://www.3speedtour.com/ ).Club bikes (to me) were just the
preferred bike of a club---modern bike clubs have their favorate
brands to ride,so I guess you could call them club bikes too.
And their were Fads in English club bikes ---in the early 30s drum
brakes were the fad of the day. Other developments of
rims, derailers, tubing all changed the Club Bike.Pre-war some 531 was
used but most top end bikes used A&P or Reynolds High Manganese
tubing.Rims improved from steel to thin Stanless steel to Alum.Wood
rims were used as racing sprint rims into the 50s as they were very
light in weight as compaired to steel. Derailer gears changed the club
bike too--but the brits did hold on to the hub gear improving it to
make it better compeat with the derailers.Guess what I'm saying is a
lot of change went into English club bikes so we have a lot of choises
when tayloring one to our modern needs.
Just think of ways to build a New--Old again--club bike
