I can't make underwater hockey tonight but should be able to go a week from Wednesday.  Looking forward to checking it out!  I used to have snorkel gear but lost it somewhere through the years...anyway, sounds like a blast!

Yup, Judy is right, practice is on Mondays and Wednesdays (only monday this week cause of the thanksgiving holiday) and you should arrive around 7:30ish to get gear.  If you have mask and snorkle (we don't use goggles) go ahead and bring your own.  We also have some fins but again if you have fins bring em.  Lots and Lots of fun to be had.  Hope to see you on the bottom of the pool.

We are always told to do something different in the offseason and last night I played underwater hockey at WWU.  I underscore play as it was 75 minutes of fun- It was all play but what a workout.. I was really tired when I was done! I love those activities when you are having so much fun you forget you are doing a workout.

It was an incredible workout… my legs, back, core, arms- everything got a workout… I also did tons of Hypoxic swimming.

I would highly recommend this activity as a great way to keep in shape over the winter.

Greetings! I trust that you are enjoying the wonderful weather that the Pacific NW has to offer. I have attached the latest clinic flyer to this e-mail so that you have a better idea of what the class that I teach has to offer and how to sign up. This year, I am adding something different... Each individual will be video-taped and then in the days after the class I will be analyzing the video(s) and then individually sending ideas for each person on what drills/skills that may assist with making changes to deter injury and improve performance. I look forward to seeing you or the people your refer at the clinic!

It really does work.. Especially for long training runs. Taking the breaks seems to allow for just a bit of recovery before having to run once again. Also works well for those attempting to change "how" they run.

Hey all, just wanted to post this if anyone is interested.  The run/walk is the "secret weapon" I use with my athletes for long course run performance.  It is "the best" means of maintaining late run strength and speed when fatigue is shutting down everyone else on the course.  Bobby McGee is one of the premier running coaches in the world, so I guarentee this info would be worth the listen.

Run/Walk to Your Way to Faster Racing Times

In a sport which consists of 3 back to back endurance events & where the most demanding of the 3 (running) comes last, it stands to reason that this is where most athletes will experience the greater challenge. The drop off from their stand alone open running times is normally far greater than it is for the bike. If there was a way in which run performance could be improved AND made easier, would not all triathletes come running with rapt attention? Well there is, but to the uninitiated & the all too cool, the option might be somewhat hard for the ego to stomach! Perhaps Bobby McGee’s experience & success as a coach might be able to change your mind. All you have to lose is slower times off the bike. Join him for a webinar on the amazing performance benefits of the run/walk method of racing & training.

you are on.  i did the padden dip last year only because my neighbors failed to provide the necessary motivation to jump in here.  did you read the article? Phelps set PR's for every race except the 200 free, if i remember right.  The question is what was bowman's motive in having michael not use the suit;  in order to deal a huge psychological blow and just crush the competition in 2010?  Motivate michael with a few races where he didn't win to train harder?  He had to know he wouldn't perform against all the suits!  But, he probably passed on what will be historical records, asterisk or not, for what rowdy gaines and others think might be decades.

A lot of the Masters swimmers had the suit last meet I was at as well.

Lots of asterisks?

Amazing is the degree of improvement seen by many swimmers who otherwise have never imagined such results. All due, in part, to a suit. Essentially all of the records set by those with those suits will have an asterisk next them. Perhaps they should, perhaps not. I am still on the fence.

The last meet has been a record of records. The interesting thing is that Michael, wearing the suit that will be legal next year, has made PR's for some of the events, as you will read. The other interesting thing I have noted is that the first thing a lot of the swimmers do at the end of the race is reach back and unzip the suit. Real comfy, eh?

Anyone care for a real rough water swim, just come by the house. Nice 2 and 3 foot breakers early today.

cheers

The last meet has been a record of records. The interesting thing is that Michael, wearing the suit that will be legal next year, has made PR's for some of the events, as you will read. The other interesting thing I have noted is that the first thing a lot of the swimmers do at the end of the race is reach back and unzip the suit. Real comfy, eh?

Anyone care for a real rough water swim, just come by the house. Nice 2 and 3 foot breakers early today.

cheers

Perhaps Brian will chime in but until then; the talk is about using power meters to optimize ones training and racing and how he coaches people using power as a measure of effort. I am sure he will be discussing other topics as well and it is our thought to bring into he club a few different perspectives. Hope to see you there!

If you cannot attend the live webinar session you can register in advance and the complete webinar recording will be emailed out to you after it is completed.

You’re absolutely right!  It’s time to coast and enjoy the fruits of your labors:  your successes and those of others, who you have helped.  The sooner that you get better, then the sooner you will be back in swing of our game (s).  I wish you a speedy recovery

Well, I should be on a plane right now half way to FL, but my body is shot. My son and I came down with the H1N1 virus about 3 weeks ago.  He had a much stronger symptoms (104-105 degree temps), but then had better recovery.  I have been dragging along a very deep cough and fatigue for the past 3 weeks.  I was diagnosed with a sinus infection last weekend, then things started getting worse yesterday, and received another diagnosis of severe bronchitis.  I had hoped to travel back east anyhow and at least watch the event, but I had a reaction to the new antibiotic last night and my blood pressure bottomed out.   Finally had to get out of the denial phase and realize it is better to stay home and recover than to continue pushing.  My wife has been dropping hints that I may get pneumonia if I continue on, and that was reinforced by the MD yesterday.  My swim yesterday hinted at that as well, I could barely hold 1:30/100 for my intervals, and I usually warm up at 1:25s.

I have had one of my best seasons ever, so that is the positive in all this.  I PR'd in every multisport race I competed in this year, and all of my coached athletes had great seasons and are looking ahead to a great 2010.  So next 2 weeks will be getting healthy, then start laying base for next year.  Thanks everyone for the well-wishes.  Hope to get back there again someday.
