It isn't the distance that hurts... It's the pain that comes with a 5k that I hope I can handle!

Ah, good going Eric.  I had just read the forum messages and was wondering about the conflict.  We have done the run every year but I am very interested in getting to the clinic with Ian.

You’re absolutely right!  It’s time to coast and enjoy the fruits of your labors:  your successes and those of others, who you have helped.  The sooner that you get better, then the sooner you will be back in swing of our game (s).  I wish you a speedy recovery

Well, I should be on a plane right now half way to FL, but my body is shot. My son and I came down with the H1N1 virus about 3 weeks ago.  He had a much stronger symptoms (104-105 degree temps), but then had better recovery.  I have been dragging along a very deep cough and fatigue for the past 3 weeks.  I was diagnosed with a sinus infection last weekend, then things started getting worse yesterday, and received another diagnosis of severe bronchitis.  I had hoped to travel back east anyhow and at least watch the event, but I had a reaction to the new antibiotic last night and my blood pressure bottomed out.   Finally had to get out of the denial phase and realize it is better to stay home and recover than to continue pushing.  My wife has been dropping hints that I may get pneumonia if I continue on, and that was reinforced by the MD yesterday.  My swim yesterday hinted at that as well, I could barely hold 1:30/100 for my intervals, and I usually warm up at 1:25s.

I have had one of my best seasons ever, so that is the positive in all this.  I PR'd in every multisport race I competed in this year, and all of my coached athletes had great seasons and are looking ahead to a great 2010.  So next 2 weeks will be getting healthy, then start laying base for next year.  Thanks everyone for the well-wishes.  Hope to get back there again someday.

Daryl,

I was so impressed by your resilient response to hurting your back two years ago that I keep it in mind whenever I have a setback. ("If Daryl can have an entire year of training derailed and still bounce back optimistically, I can get through  . . . " ) You did bounce back from the back injury, of course, to the PRs this year. But now the flue two weeks before a 1/2? I hereby request that you get a hallpass on injury and illness for the forseeable future.
You deserve it.

Steve

Hello all-

If someone wants to make a Bellingham Triathlon Club team this year that'd be great.

I created a team for my office so won't be creating or leading a BTC team this year.
If there is no BTC team, feel free to join my office team and I will organize how to get you your T-shirt and race stuff.
My team this year:

Thanks

Daryl,
I am very sorry to hear that your body is not exactly cooperating with the minds need to race my friend. One thing that really helped me 'get over' not being able to race this summer, due to my own series of unfortunate events, was that it is only a race. There will be more and at times this is what happens. Heal well, take care of yourself, listen to your wife (smart lady!) and keep smilin' as it could be worse! You know me, I always have to make light of the situation. Anyway, you had a great year and you cannot feel as if you did not accomplish a ton because you did. Looking forward to getting outdoors with you this late fall/winter.

Take care, ERIK

What a bummer- we never know what will happen come race day.

You have been a tremendous support and great coach. I too had one of the best seasons ever and even though Austin didn’t go as planned I still had a 70.3 PR.

Take Care- Look forward to working with you soon.

And may the antibiotics kick this bronchitis before Saturday. Due to
illness, My goal is just to be able to do a fun swim, bike, run with
1500 cool people. Don't see any PR in my near future, just want my
health back. A comfortable 70.3 miles in the sunshine does sound very
fun though! Thanks Sean.

To Daryl and Mark racing in Florida this weekend at the ˝ Ironman World Championships….

I think the Clearwater version of the Irish blessing goes like this:

May the Gulf seas be calm and fast

May there be not too much drafting from the packs

May the winds though be always at your back

May the causeway rise not too high

And get smaller with each pass,

May the Florida sun shine warm upon your face,
Knowing you just kicked some Championship Clearwater as_!!!

That’s about as creative as it gets boys.  Have a great time and soak it all in.  It’s a fantastic accomplishment.

Sean

Wow. That sounds really interesting. Thanks for making the effort. I will be there and finally meet anyone who is there and is in group. Looking forward to that!

PS I hope Mike is doing ok. I've never met him. But I feel bad just hearing anyone has to suffer instead of doing fun fun training. Darn. So too bad. Take care. From sunny Iowa.

Hey Susan!
Face north for me and give a wave to Minneapolis please!  It's where I'm from and I miss it at times :(.  Enjoy the sun, I miss that too, and the warmer weather while it lasts anyway!  "Y'all"; you do realize you're in the NORTH and not the south?  I will try and put more corn in my diet just for you :).

Hey gang. I'm on vacation in sunny Des Moines, Iowa, this week. Got a nice 5 mile run in on an (obviously) flat trail in 70 degrees at 4pm! No rain forecast all week! Do you all want me to give you a daily update of how nice the weather is here every day and tell you how nice it is to exercise without you know what? Eat more corn, ya'll! Susan
