You’re absolutely right! It’s

Well, I should be on a plane right now half way to FL, but my body
is shot. My son and I came down with the H1N1 virus about 3
weeks ago. He had a much stronger symptoms (104-105
degree temps), but then had better recovery. I have been
dragging along a very deep cough and fatigue for the past 3 weeks. I was
diagnosed with a sinus infection last weekend, then things started getting
worse yesterday, and received another diagnosis of severe
bronchitis. I had hoped to travel back east anyhow and at least watch the
event, but I had a reaction to the new antibiotic last night and my blood
pressure bottomed out. Finally had to get out of the denial phase
and realize it is better to stay home and recover than to continue
pushing. My wife has been dropping hints that I may get pneumonia if I
continue on, and that was reinforced by the MD yesterday. My swim
yesterday hinted at that as well, I could barely hold 1:30/100 for my
intervals, and I usually warm up at 1:25s.
I
have had one of my best seasons ever, so that is the positive in all
this. I PR'd in every multisport race I competed in this year,
and all of my coached athletes had great seasons and are looking ahead to
a great 2010. So next 2 weeks will be getting healthy, then start laying
base for next year. Thanks everyone for the well-wishes. Hope to
get back there again someday.

I was so impressed by your resilient response to hurting your back two years ago that I keep it in mind whenever I have a setback. ("If Daryl can have an entire year of training derailed and still bounce back optimistically, I can get through . . . " ) You did bounce back from the back injury, of course, to the PRs this year. But now the flue two weeks before a 1/2? I hereby request that you get a hallpass on injury and illness for the forseeable future.
You deserve it.

Daryl, I am very sorry to hear that your body is not exactly cooperating with the minds need to race my friend. One thing that really helped me 'get over' not being able to race this summer, due to my own series of unfortunate events, was that it is only a race. There will be more and at times this is what happens. Heal well, take care of yourself, listen to your wife (smart lady!) and keep smilin' as it could be worse! You know me, I always have to make light of the situation. Anyway, you had a great year and you cannot feel as if you did not accomplish a ton because you did. Looking forward to getting outdoors with you this late fall/winter.
Take care, ERIK

What a bummer- we never know what will happen come race day.
You have been a tremendous support and great coach. I too had
one of the best seasons ever and even though Austin didn’t go as planned I
still had a 70.3 PR.

PS I hope Mike is doing ok. I've never met him. But I feel bad just hearing anyone has to suffer instead of doing fun fun training. Darn. So too bad. Take care. From sunny Iowa.

Hey Susan!
Face north for me and give a wave to Minneapolis please! It's where I'm from and I miss it at times :(. Enjoy the sun, I miss that too, and the warmer weather while it lasts anyway! "Y'all"; you do realize you're in the NORTH and not the south? I will try and put more corn in my diet just for you :).
