Greetings, Bellingham cyclists and cycling fans!

This weekend, Saturday, April 9th, 2005, WWU Cycling will be hosting our
first collegiate invitational and road racing event. 12 schools from
Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Montana will be converging right here in
Bellingham to fight for points in a bid for a trip to collegiate nationals
on May 13-15 in Lawrence, KS. After two weekends of some very wet racing,
we are currently second in the conference and the leaders among Div. II
schools, meaning that we are on track to Western's first Nationals
appearance in the sport of cycling! This is our main fundraiser for
sending our representatives to Kansas in May. You can learn more about
our conference here: http://users.moscow.com/wykoff/index2.htm

We need the support of the whole Bellingham cycling community to make this
race a success. You could race (there are some open USCF categories for
men and women), offer resources such as host housing, prizes for
non-collegiate event winners, or baked goods/refreshments for our
donation-based food booth. Or you could just come out and cheer us on!
Any of this involvement would be hugely appreciated.

We are also especially in need of volunteers for corner marshalling and
support vehicles. There are multiple shifts available throughout the day,
and the more help we have, the shorter the shifts will be! We are trying
to secure good support for our volunteers. You will be able to help
yourself to our coffee/food stand supplied in part by our sponsorship from
Haggen and additional support from Sehome Haggen. With some luck and
grace from the godfather of bicycle race support (Gerry!), we'll have some
Bandito's Burritos snacks to fuel you mid-day. We know standing outside
in spring weather may not be easy, so we will try to make it as pleasant
as possible.

Here is our web page with schedules, maps and more details:

http://www.wwucycling.com/events.asp

We are holding a pre-race planning meeting this Thursday at 7 p.m. on
campus in Bond Hall, room 105. This is in the middle of the ground floor
of the only 4 story building in Red Square. Our one certified flagger, as
required by the county, will be on hand to provide some training for
course marshals. Please try to attend if you are sincere about providing
course support for this event. Otherwise, contact our volunteer
coordinator, Zach Guy, directly at zachguy@... or 788-1260 with
your name and area of interest. You can contact me with other
supplies/resources.

If we can put on a good event, we may get voted by our conference to host
the conference championships next year or the year after, at which point
we can consider adding a criterium and more non-collegiate categories. A
successful fundraiser might also motivate us to continue our efforts by
bringing some cyclocross racing back to Bellingham this fall. We would
like to help make cycling a sport that is synonymous with Bellingham.
Will you help us?

Greetings, Bellingham cyclists and cycling fans!

This weekend, Saturday, April 9th, 2005, WWU Cycling will be hosting our first collegiate invitational and road racing event.  12 schools from Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Montana will be converging right here in Bellingham to fight for points in a bid for a trip to collegiate nationals on May 13-15 in Lawrence, KS.  After two weekends of some very wet racing, we are currently second in the conference and the leaders among Div. II schools, meaning that we are on track to Western’s first Nationals appearance in the sport of cycling!  This is our main fundraiser for sending our representatives to Kansas in May.  You can learn more about our conference here: http://users.moscow.com/wykoff/index2.htm

We need the support of the whole Bellingham cycling community to make this race a success.  You could race (there are some open USCF categories for men and women), offer resources such as host housing, prizes for non-collegiate event winners, or baked goods/refreshments for our donation-based food booth.  Or you could just come out and cheer us on!  Any of this involvement would be hugely appreciated.
