Re: Kenda Fest Gone

Hi,

There's been some talk about putting on our own Festival...

I got some numbers from Joan for all the expenses that went into
putting on the Kendafest and the cost is very large. If we did the
same (tents, generators, ambulance, police, porta potties, p/a
systems, advertising, land rental, insurance, paid people, etc...)
The list just goes on and on and on, believe me. Expenses are
massive. We would need a large number of attendees at $70/person,
probably on the order of 600-700 to break even. I know we could do a
lot less, but ... there's absolutely no way I want to put this on.
ALso, I don't think there's enough room in the PSF to put the camping
on I don't think. And there's no alcohol in the PSF. How likely is
it people will respect that and we won't end up banned the next
year?

If a different group (Bike & Blade? October Mt. Boys?) or individual
(Johnny J?) wants to try to put on a Festival, maybe a scaled down
one, that would be great, but it's way more than I want to get
involved in.

The PSF does have a big field for camping (individual campsites) and
a field next to it (for group camping), plus there's the Lulu Cascade
camping area. There's limited parking in the PSF. There aren't a
lot of campsites.

Most of the new trails were put in way over in Hancock so I don't
think anyone would bother going over to them unless the Festival is
back over at Rodger Johnson's, which you probably have to do to get
enough camping spots.

About the only thing I would feel comfortable with would be putting
on a single day event. I'm finding out from Phil Keyes what it takes
to put on a Kona Bicycles-Fox Shox MTB Adventures Series ride in the
Berkshires. (It doesn't have to be the PSF if there's some place
better, but I don't really think there is).

Before I get too excited about a single day event, is anyone
interested in helping out at this? Doing organization stuff,
registration, marking trails, cleaning the trails that are messed up
right now, getting permits and permission, promoting it, ride
leading, arranging porta-potties, etc...? If so - email me what
you'd like to do and I'll start building a volunteer list.

Thanks,
Brad

Saw press release that Kenda Fest is going away. Is this something Nemba could take over and make a Berkshire County Nemba Fest? It would be a shame to see...
