Kind of a bummer. I really enjoyed Kendafest. Here’s a
letter from Renee Hicks:

Kenda BikeFest presented by Dirt Rag comes to an end
Hi,
After 14 years the Festival has come to an end. I want to
personally thank you.
You helped us in so many ways, with excellent exhibits, great activities &
rides, wonderful music, a clean & dry place to sleep for a few hours, the naked
crit, long hours of hard work, freebies for the volunteers & participants,
sheltering me in downpours, paying the bills, having some beers both on the
field and in Vegas, printing the flyers, driving me around the field, wonderful
massages, hot air balloons, great coffee, watching people drive through the
legendary mud, spin to win, making my ideas materialize into logos &
shirts, the tent in the woods, hours of stuffing goodie bags, patching up the
scrapes, game shows, Johnny Cash Sundays, mud bogs, feeding me, slip 'n slides,
and generally the best weekend of each summer!
You made the memories possible, you made us look good! And for that I'm
eternally grateful.
We are very sad to see the Fest
come to an end after all these years. It’s been a summertime tradition
for many cyclists and their families and we’ve felt a real sense of community
with all involved. However, in the current economic climate producing the
Festival has become too expensive to remain viable. The costs of doing
business have continued to rise while the number of people attending has
dropped off since mountain
biking was in its heyday. We have
received outstanding support over the years from our industry partners,
sponsors, attendees and pro athletes – to them we are extremely thankful. In
particular we would like to thank KENDA and Dirt Rag and, of course, PEDRO'S
for all of their support in making the Festival possible for all these years.
Thanks for so many great times & memories you helped make possible!
I've got free time now, so please keep me in mind if you know of anyone who
needs my services.
Best regards,
Renee
