Bike ride Sat August 8 from Magnuson to Gasworks for Tour de Fat
An easy cruise along the trail to the Tour de Fat bicycle and beer festival at Gasworks Parks to support the Bicycle Alliance of Washington and Bike Works, two worthwhile bicycle advocacy and educational organizations. Some benefits require you to undergo challenging and uncomfortable physical ordeals to support a worthy cause; this time however, you need only sample some great microbrews!
This is not really a 'bent ride but I will be on my tadpole trike. Ride should be soon on CBC website and listed to Northshore Senior Cyclists, so you know it will be EASY, i.e., SLOW.
.
Leader plans to stay only for about one hour. Riders are of course free to return on their own: All you have to remember is to turn downhill where the BG trail crosses 65 Avenue, cross Sandpoint Way at the traffic light, then turn north inside Magnuson Park.
.
This ride is also a chance to say HI to Gary Strauss, Cascade Bicycle Club’s Rider of the Year. Gary will be volunteering there between 11:30 and 1:30. Let’s not let this well-deserved award to Gary obscure his manifold long-term efforts to improve the cycling environment in Seattle. He continues to do this not just by planning and leading immaginative and ingenious rides, but by support of formal organizations and individual bicycle projects. But even beyond all this, his many professional, political, and social contacts places a rational bicycle advocate among those who may not be otherwise reached by other bicycle lobby efforts. Gary’s email list by itself would be the equivalent of a major bicycle club! (What - you’re not not it?)

Directions to Sand Point/Magnuson Park playground
Enter Sand Point/Magnuson Park at the traffic light at 7400 Sand Point Way NE (under the building-archway) and continue east about 200 yards to the large paved parking lot on right that serves the playground. This is NOT the CBC office. Portable toilet in lot or at dog park entrance. Grid Square F-7 on the AAA Seattle city map.
