Ride Tuesday Night 08/04/09   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #513 of 546 |
Fellow Riders: The weather doesn't get much better for riding than it is right
now. No layers, no wind and rain shells, no flooding, no ice. Yahooo.

Seems like there are fewer Bents on the Sammamish River and Burke Gillman Trails
this summer than last. Don't know why.

I still see a few Visions, Counterpoint Tandems, a Chase Tandem (new to me), and
occasional Bike-E, and the lightening team Bacchetta / Optima out of Lake
Forest.

I am doing a ~40mi ride Tuesday, 08/04/09 if you'd like to join me.

Departure: 06:30PM – Return Estimated: 10:30PM. Gotta have lights, especially
for the Sammamish River Trail after sunset.

Ride is unsupported.

Meet at Grass Lawn Park in Redmond (148th Ave & Old Redmond Rd ... up the hill
from Marymoor Park and near Microsoft) near soccer field.

Route:

Down the hill and all the way across Marymoor Park via Old Redmond Road, West
Lake Sammamish Parkway, and the Sammamish River Trail.
Backtrack across Marymoor Park, thence north through Woodinville / Bothell.
Continue west on the Burke Gillman through Kenmore / Lake Forest.
Bio stop at Log Boom Park
Continue south on Burke Gillman (west side of Lake Washington) to Mathews Beach.
Bio stop, carbs, and biker revelry.
Return by same route.

Facilities: All restrooms on Trails are open, but some close at sundown or
shortly thereafter. There is H2O at all facilities, but I usually carry my own.

Terrain: The route is mostly flat with a few short hills and some extended very
shallow grades.
Except for the last leg from the Sammamish River Trail to West Sammamish Parkway
to Old Redmond Road to Grass Lawn Park. This leg is roughly 1 ½ mi long,
ranging from 4 to 7% grade.

Please email me if you plan to join so I make sure no one gets left behind.

Happy Trails,

Bill

Ride Pace: Moderate. I usually float between 14 and 17 mph except for the big hill. I'm down to 4-5 mph most of that climb. B...

It was a great ride last night. The trail in the evening light is very different from my regular morning traversal of the same. The moon was full and quite...
