After months of research I finally bought a 'bent. Dale at Angle
Lake hooked me up with a Bacchetta Giro 26. The Recurve seat with a
Greenspeed headrest attached make it a very comfortable bike to sit
on. This is my first recumbent. It is fun, but my speed and
stability has gone waaay down.

I have been told to give it a couple weeks before passing judgement.

For my record keeping (and your humour) I will post periodic
updates. I started riding it the 15 miles to work last week -the
0:55 min trip that I have been riding for 1.5 yrs took me 1:25, and
I had to stop at Mercer Is. for a drink. Whe I got to work, the
front of my left hip (between hip bone and betty button) was very
painful every time I got up, and my neck and shoulders were very
tense (probably from being tense the whole ride). Today (commute day
2), the ride took me only 1:15 (getting more comfortable with the
position and not braking on the down hills). Neck and shoulders were
loose, and the hip pain did not come back. This time, my left calf
cramped and my left sitz bone hurt. It still feels like I am slowly
pushing a heavy lazy-boy recliner -even going along the I-90 bridge.

Other general observations - 1-Cars seem to give me more space, 2-
The bike bairly fits on the bus' bike rack -actually the back tire
is perched on the rack, rather than securely in the tire slot -I
watched it intently, the whole trip the to P&R. 3-My ankles and
belly get colder, and back is warmer than on a road bike. 4-Anything
put in the cycling jersey pocket jabs in your back -btw, a tiny cell
phone can create a lot of pain.

David

David, Bents use a different set of muscles than wedgies and you really need to work up to your commute distance - otherwise, knee and hip problems can arise....

Hi, I'm glad to hear the Bacchetta will work on a bus rack. I haven't tried mine on the bus yet. I nearly killed my cell phone on my last ride while carrying...

The Giro 26 will fit on *some* of the bus racks. It won't fit at all on the old, black racks with closed wheel hoops at both ends (that's what I happened to...

David: As someone who commutes year-round through Seattle, I have very similar priorities. So I have a bike with similar features - a Rotator Tiger with disk...

There's nothing wrong with a Giro 26 for commuting. Yes, it's heavier than an Aero or Corsa. Again, the rider in question is loading it up with a laptop, etc.,...

I think the Giro 26 is a superb choice for what you want. Disc brakes do indeed work better in the wet weather, albeit they are heavy and require a sturdier...
