You probably notice that we write about Michael Wardian a lot... Averaging 12 marathons a year - almost all in the 2:20s - Wardian is one of the most prolific and accomplished marathoners on the planet. And that's in his spare time when he's not working his full-time job, helping with his family and pursuing national titles at the 50K, 50Mile and 100K (not to mention recent finishes as 6th in the World at the 100K National Championships and third in the world at the 50K World Championships) . Wardian previously held the Guiness Record for the fastest marathon on a treadmill and currently holds the Guinness record for fastest marathon pushing a child in a jog stroller (2:42:21). And so our story begins...
Zac Freudenburg

At 30 years old, Zac Freudenburg' s marathon resume is not as extensive as Wardian's, but he is equally as talented. Freudenburg once finished third at the grueling Pikes Peak Marathon (13 miles straight up then 13 miles straight down), was third at the 2008 World Mountain Running Championships and in his most recent marathon finish was the winner of the 2009 Go! St. Louis Marathon in a new course record time of 2:23:57.
The Challenge - A New Guiness World Record?
After the birth of his son, Liam, in January 2009, Freudenburg learned of the Stroller record and with the agreement of race director Chris Lieberman, set a record attempt to take place at the Nov. 22 Route 66 Marathon. Wardian - having achieved the current record with his first son in the stroller - had often stated that he would like to break his record with his second son... When Wardian heard of Freudenburg' s plan, he asked to get in on the action...

Sorry for the slow reponse to this, but here it goes...

So what seemed like a good idea several months ago didn't seem like quite as good of an idea about 5 hours into the run on Saturday morning. But all three of us that set out to finish it, did indeed finish it. It definitely took me longer than expected, with some long breaks at the "aid stations" and a fair amount of walking mixed in there as the mileage increased.

Aside from the wind, we got pretty lucky with the weather. It was a beautiful sunny day and every part of the trail that had flooded on Friday was drained by Saturday morning.

The finishers of the 35 miler were:

I completed my half marathon at the Rock n' Roll San Antonio event yesterday!! In spite the heat and humidity I had a Personal best and a PR!!! Of course it was my first 1/2 marathon... :-) My official time was 2:12:42. There were at least 7 cardiac arrests, 2 of my Team in Training folks went off in ambulances. The weather made for a tough day. But, after all was said and done, it was a wonderful experience!

Sorry for the slow reponse to this, but here it goes...

So what seemed like a good idea several months ago didn't seem like quite as good of an idea about 5 hours into the run on Saturday morning. But all three of us that set out to finish it, did indeed finish it. It definitely took me longer than expected, with some long breaks at the "aid stations" and a fair amount of walking mixed in there as the mileage increased.

Aside from the wind, we got pretty lucky with the weather. It was a beautiful sunny day and every part of the trail that had flooded on Friday was drained by Saturday morning.

The finishers of the 35 miler were:

It seems we got lucky again this year and we have 3 possible teams to fill. I'm not sure who all is interested again this year...and I've heard a lot of people express interest.

If you are interested and have not replied on the Ning group, please join that group and RSVP. If you for some reason can't...or just know someone that is interested but isn't in either group let me or Toby know.

Since in years past we've come up short when paying for hotels and gas and everything, this year we're asking that everyone pays $120 up front...which means in the next week or so.

We have to pay the entry fee of $360 per team, $1080 total, in the next 10 days.
