You all were a part of my life in the 23 years that I have lived. I heard a news story on WWLP-22 tonight about an author who went to Elms College in Chicopee and talked about his book. He lived with Asperger's Syndrome in his life and as some of you know, I also suffer from this syndrome. I e-mailed him about what I went through in my childhood and the things that happened in my childhood and I hope that he and I can get connected and talk about our similarities. Maybe we can learn something about each other to improve our lives. His name is John Elder Robison and the book is called "Look Me In The Eye". The book is about his life and how he grew up with Asperger's Syndrome and how it affected his life. I think this book might also help you figure out how I feel sometimes and for anyone else that might be affected by the syndrome. That might be why sometimes I would travel in a different way to get to someplace because I wanted to explore something new. I wanted to go to Provincetown on the Saturday of Columbus Day Weekend (was also the 4th anniversary of my grandmother's death) and I went through Rhode Island and on I-195 to get there and on Monday itself, took Route 3 to Boston and the MassPike to go home. Yes, I was camping at Scussett Beach that weekend, just in case you were wondering.
As some of you may know, I am having a problem with my friendship with Josh Pratt since he came back from Cape Cod in September. For those of you that want a copy of the e-mails that I sent about the issue to my friends, please e-mail me and I can send you a copy. You might be wondering why I am talking about it in this e-mail. I believe it might be an affect of Asperger's Syndrome. I am still having a problem trying to get Josh out of my head and my mind, but that's hard. My mom is trying to find a therapist for me to have a session with. I hope it works, but who knows.
Just to let you all know that he will be at the Suffield Public Library in Suffield, CT on November 1 at 7PM speaking about his book and the problems that he faced. I might go, but I am not sure on that yet. It might be good for me to go to hear how someone else went through the problems that I deal with, but I also have league night that night, so I don't know. I encourage you all to go because you never know when you might run into someone that has the syndrome. Please pass the word on this event to your friends. You can go onto his website and see the details of his book and you can also buy the book at: http://www.johnrobison.com/default.asp.
Thank You,
Mike DiMauro
