Deaf Awareness Week

Greetings everyone! Week 2 was a better week for me than was Week 1. I know I said that Week 3 was going to be dedicated to September 11: 5 years later, but I didn’t feel that we needed to do that. Instead, Week 3 is dedicated to Deaf Awareness. September is Deaf Awareness Month. Why would I dedicate a week to this? Well, I am currently taking two courses at HCC and both of my professors are like millions of people around the world, deaf. I am taking American Sign Language and Deaf Studies. I am learning about the deaf community. There will be a booth at the Big E in the New England Center for this and so that people can learn about the deaf services that are offered to the deaf. 1. I know that this event is not until October 29, but I have some news for you. For the past two years, I have walked in the Rays of Hope Breast Cancer Walk at Forest Park in Springfield with the PV8 Pals. Now, I have formed my very own team called the BMN Pals (BMN=Beat Mike Network). I invite you to join my team. If you would like to join my team for the walk, please go to the web site http://www.baystatehealth.com/raysofhope and register to join my team. The name of the team is BMN Pals. You should connect then. Also, if I am able to, I will need to know your shirt size so that I can get you a shirt for the walk. After the walk, we will all go to a local restaurant to have pizza or a luncheon. There are two paths you can walk. The 5 mile (8 KM) or the 2 mile (3.2 KM).

2. Make sure you go to the Big E this year in West Springfield, MA. It is going now until October 1.

3. Make sure you watch the new CW (locally: 11N, 20, 28, 44V, 45A, 51M, 56, WBPQ, WBQT) and MyNetworkTV (locally: 9N, 35M, 39V, 50, 51A, 59, 64, MyBMN). Yes, I made up that last one. There is no MyBMN, but we do not have a MyNetworkTV affiliate here in the Springfield area.

4. As you may know, As Schools Match Wits is no longer on the air on WWLP. The show was cancelled and there is a petition to bring the show back on the air. As some of you may know, I was on the Gateway Regional High School team in 2002. Even though our team lost, that was one of my goals that I wanted to do since I was a kid. I got to go on the show and had a fun time. I want this to continue for generation after generation.
