Going thru some old editions of the KOM League Flash Report from John Hall and came up with a handful of recent passings that were not reported here, hence they have not been submitted for revision on Baseball-Reference.  It's likely that there are other 2011 passings recorded in his free-flowing prose, so if any fellow readers of his online newsletters spot others that have been missed, please forward to the list.

This one appeared in September 26th issue.

Here's Part 2 of the story about Paul "Jake" Martin is in today’s Tribune-Review (Monessen, PA).

I don't believe this has been shared previously...Paul Charles Martin, who pitched in seven games for the 1955 Pittsburgh Pirates as a 23-year-old bonus baby, died October 11, 2011, in San Diego, Calif., at age 79. Martin apparently never played college baseball and was an unordained minister at the time he signed with the Pirates. He never did pitch in the minors; he played winter ball in the Dominican in 1955-56, apparently hurt his arm there, appeared in some spring training games with the Pirates in '56 and then retired because of his arm. he later sued the team for the balance of his reported $30,000 bonus. He later became a chiropractor, according to Rich Marazzi and Len Fiorito's book "Baseball Players of the 1950s."

John "Jack" Warwick, who played 14 games in 1948 for Fulton (Ky.), a Washington
Senators farm club in the Kitty League and is a member of both the Manitoba
Baseball and Football Halls of Fame, died July 11, 2011, in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
at the age of 84. Apparently he is in the football hall as part of a team. Jack
later spent 30 years as a sworn officer with the Winnipeg Police Department. The
obituary makes reference to Jack also playing for the Senators in Florida, could
he have been somewhere where he didn't make the minimum playing requirement to
be included in a guide? The Senators also had a D League team (same level as
Fulton) in Orlando in both 1948 and '49. I got the information from the Winnipeg
Free Press in this chronological list of notable Manitobans who died last year:

Per the obit, he passed on Friday, December 30th with family at his side. It's not stated explicitly that he passed away at home, and though the funeral home site only shows a shell of what will be a tribute page at this time, they do confirm Place of Death as Fishers, Indiana which is the home address that I have on file.  http://www.harrywmoore.com

George Earl Murphy, a first baseman who played in the White Sox and Indians organizations prior to being drafted into military service in 1950, died on February 24, 2011 in Madison, WI.

FROM KOM LEAGUE FLASH REPORT - 11/28/2011
George Earl Murphy - Iola 1948--Contact was made with George Murphy a number of years ago. When writing the book about the KOM league I uncovered the fact that Murphy was signed by the Chicago White Sox prior to his graduation from high school.  A.B. Chandler, the Commissioner of Baseball, made him the property of the Cleveland Indians and that is how he came to be the first baseman for the Iola Indians in 1948. He had played on a championship a Wisconsin American Legion team, in 1945. Murphy also played at Wisconsin Rapids in the Wisconsin State league in 1947 and also played with Mattoon, Illinois in the Mississippi-Ohio-Valley league before going into the Army.

Mr. Beard's most memorial moment was a long home run over the right field
roof at Pittsburgh’s Forbes Field. At the time, only Babe Ruth had done
that.

The obituary gives the spelling of his first name as Danial, not Daniel; however, the online sources that I consulted show the first name as Daniel. Baseball-Reference.com lists hist full name as Daniel Oran Roy Hellman; however, online sources indicate that his middle initial is "A." Finally Baseball-Reference.com and the obituary differ on the place of birth (Mott ND vs. Minot ND).

Mr. Chrisotpher played on the Geneva team in 1960 in upstate New York.
This was a Class D team. However, he had Pete Rose and Tony Perez (and
Art Shamsky) as teammates.

In 1973, I twice I had to be temporarily assigned by the Army to Seneca
Army Depot, which is next to Geneva. I went to the local Geneva team's
pre-season "Meet the Players." Their manager Fred Waters told us to "Come
to the Geneva Twins' games and see the next Pete Rose."

Sadly, there was no Pete Rose on the 1973 team. But the 1960 fans did see
several star players. However, none of the three had impressive stats and
it is doubtful that the few realized who they were seeing.

I suspect that this record for C Wayne Carroll, a catcher in the 1940-41 Evangeline League, also belongs to our man W.C. Carroll, and helps explain his later affiliation w/Cleveland Indians for whom he organized tryout camps in Mexia TX, per the obit..
