I have been in email contact with his daughter, Anastasia Eubanks, who confirms Champ was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

1930 US Federal Census indicates that Donald Thomas Champagney was born in Connecticut.

1945 US military enlistment records indicate that the US was his native country.

Everyone loved Joe and the Lonnett Family. We are thinking of all of you .

And this message from Duke Sims, former catcher for the Indians (and others):

Name: Duke Sims
Relation: Retired MLB
My sympathies on the passing of a super guy. I played at the time Joe
coached for the White Sox. I admired him immensely and I know that
while we have a grieving period there is joy in knowing that he
resides with the Lord Jesus Christ. God Bless you at this time.
