Happy Hogmanay...
I've had a quick look at some of the bartitsu techniques on the
Journal of Manly Arts site, and I have to say that the first
demonstrated straight arm lock, for removing troublesome guests, is
not at all a winner; the lock and pivot are certainly effective from
a biomechanical perspective, but the assailants other hand is free
to strike and cannot be completely blocked by the body. I accept
that the arm could be broken in reply, if twisted laterally, but
this is a hardly even a draw if it allows the trapped assailant to
deliver a focused blow to the side or rear of ones head.
How does one join the Bartitsu association or preservation society?
Do they have publications, events, distinguishing symbols or
uniforms? Is anyone actually teaching this art today?
Regards,
J.
