dear will, the two most popular jiu jitsu hand blows of the time
period [ kano jiu jitsu , tenshin school ] were the heel of hand blow
and the edge of hand blow [ these were called THE ROCK CRUSHING BLOWS
OF JIU JITSU BY APOLLO ] ------W.E FAIRBAIRN OF COMMANDO FAME later
called it a chin jab and edgeof hand blow , in his famous women's
manual HANDS OFF , he repeats APOLLO'S TERMINIOLOGY of ROCK-CRUSHING
BLOWS BECAUSE SAMURAI used to practise these particular blows on
trees and rocks-------the most powerful punch used in early jiu jitsu
was the suigetsu punch to the solar plexus/stomach area , this was
talked about greatly and demonstrated by capt. allan smith in his
wonderful book on jiu jitsu , THE SECRETS OF JIU JITSU 1916----7
VOLUMES, I ALSO HAVE CAPT SMITH ON TAPE TEACHING KANO JIU JITSU --THE
NEXT TWO POPULAR jiu jitsu turn of the century blows are the knee
blow and the finger jab -------it is basically conceded that barton -
wright most likely studied the tenshin school which was big with
police officers in nagasaki as well ------i would say an excellent
overview of the tenshin school can be found in 1943's combat jiu
jitsu for offense and defense by S.R. LINCK--------INOUYE ANd POLICE
CHEIF O'BRIEN [ WHO LATER TAUGHT A.J. DREXLE-BIDDLE ] WERE ALSO
FAMOUS TENSHIN MEN AS WELL AS HANCOCK AND HIGASHI --HOPE THIS HELPS---
