The cite came from Robert W. Smith's "A Complete Guide to Judo"
bibliography, which is quite good, but not infallible. The thing that
impressed me was that he gives page numbers for that third article, which
leads me to belive that something may very well be there.
IIRC, there is a good satirical article in Pearson's around the same isses
as the strong man feats that is not by Barton-Wright, but pokes fun at him
called "Self-Defence with a Bicycle" or something like that. Here we go, I
found the reference :
"Self-Protection On A Cycle - Marcus Tindal
A serious(?) look at the techniques a cyclist might use for protection from
footpads and other problems, advising the use of bicycle pumps and the
bicycle itself as a weapon. Published in April 1901, and may possibly be a
parody of The New Art of Self-Defence. Several interesting photographs."

page)
The same site says the Barton-Wright is only two parts. I would still like
to get a look at the June 1899 Pearson's, though. Does anyone have acces to
it? The Library of Congress shoud have a copy, but you never know when
things turn up missing down there. Plus it will be a few weeks before I can
go down again.
