Re: Idler problem and question

Tennbent,
I bought the orange Baron and My brother Mike bought the White Baron
from Bentupcycles.
I have the same triple as you. Bentupcycles replaced what came with the
my Baron to the triple with a wider Axle.(for chain clearance of the
stock chainline)
Mike put terracycle Idlers on his White Baron and changed his chainline
to low. I believe he used an Idler that he had on another of his bikes.
It is a Terracycle idler and has no problems with that set up. (That I
know of)
I tried this also, but had the same noise problems as you with my (new)
Terracycle idler. I didn't like the low chainline or the noise from the
Terracycle Idler and have since gone back to the original Optima Baron
chainline set-up, with the exception of the chain tube which I removed.
The chain power and return paths clear each other by aprox. 1/8 in.
Result is everything is quiet again and the chain doesn't come off when
back peddeling with the low chainline and wheel turned.
I tried the same (new) Terracycle Idler I bought for the Baron on my 05
Catrike Speed. It was noisy there also.
My question, is this:
What did you end up finding out about your Terracyle Idler. Did you get
it to work quietly? Did Terracyle help?
I haven't contacted Terracyle yet. I though I'd see what you ended up
doing before contacting them.
Thanx.
Greg

His Baron

Hi Everyone, I recently purchased a new Baron from BentUp Cycles. I wanted to run the stock chain configuration but I did replace the stock idlers with a full...

Your suspicions are very plausible. On the Seiran SL, there was a certain light chain tension that would allow the chain to be bumped down off the idler and on...

Stephen, Do you have a Baron X-low or a regular Baron? I have a regular Baron with a full set of Terracycle idlers (both Power and Return sides) and...

I'm fairly new to recumbents, I have had my used Baron for about a month now. Where are the "O" rings on the Optima idlers? I'm wondering if it was worn out...

The O-ring would be between the chain and the idler groove. If there's no O-ring there, the chain probably ate through the rubber and the chain rolls against...

Ok, thanks. So a single O ring on each idler. Can they be replaced with generic O rings from the hardware store? Craig To: BaronOwners@yahoogroups.com From:...

I would check to see if the o rings are compatible with your chain lubricant or they may swell up like Paul said. I'm not sure that they stay on for long...

... Stephen, I can't see how you could have any slippage of the chain on the power idler while pedaling. The power idler should offer almost no resistance &...

Stephen Could you post some pics of your set up? I had a similar problem that ended up being the chain rubbing under the front of the seat. I had installed a...
