That would have been my first guess, but it's on the opposite side of
the chain. I can't think of anything that could have made contact
with the tire. What's even more odd is that the REAR tire of my p-38
is having the same problem, and the tire is a vittoria, though I had
chalked that one up to use and abuse of ragbrai, plus all the
commuting I've done since.
