Unfortunately, life sometimes gets in the way of our running. However, running is NOT our lives, just a small part.

Heal well, Bob. Thanks.

Rick,

Only got in 10 BF miles...too busy to run much this past week. Got an ankle injury playing volleyball during our camping trip this past weekend...may be a limited run this week as well....had fun prior to the injury.

Have a great week,
Bob

Thanks for the miles, Sindi.

Yep, be careful about using the Vibrams, especially if you have no need for them. Kinda like a guy who uses crutches but can really walk quite well without them. Too often, crutches have a tendancy to keep us weak, not allowing us to walk (or run, as in your case) without them.

33 miles for me this past week; 13 just this morning.

Hey you guys!  I MET ANOTHER BAREFOOT RUNNER this morning, A GIRL TOO!  This is the same girl I met earlier in the spring.  She's still transitioning, but she injured herself about 6 weeks ago when she put the shoes BACK ON to run a 10-miler with some of her friends.  That injury kept her from running for 6 weeks, so when she stopped me this morning, she said she was still feeling some pain.  I asked her to take her shoes off and finish her run barefoot with me, about 1/2 mile.  She did, and when we got to her car, I asked her how she felt.  She said she ran that remainder without any pain whatsoever!  We are going to meet on Sundays to run together.  She is so excited and so am I!  How often do you run into another barefoot runner right in your own town?  This is way too cool!

44.32 bf running miles for me this past week; another PB.

I hope to be reporting many PBs between now and the end of the year as I try to extend the distance of my long runs while preparing for my 1st bf half-marathon this November and my 1st bf marathon in February.

I am now running 7 days a week. I do not think that I was ever able to run 7 days a week while wearing shoes. My longest bf run to date is only 8 miles so I need to bump that up a lot by the end of the year iot be ready for Surf City in February.

Have a great bf running week everyone,

Mike R

2. Run at least 800 barefoot miles during 2009.

Rick,

Had a pretty good week with 20.5 BF miles....maybe a break a 30 mile week this year...that would be a 1st ever for me.
I am aiming for a 500 mile year...have just over 300 so far.

Tamara,
We are all praying for you in this tough time you are going through.

Have a great week,
Bob

This is a terribly trying time for you TJ. I pray that the Lord would wrap you and your family in His loving arms and lead you to a place of knowing and trusting Him better in this valley of darkness.

Thanks for the miles.

Rick

Well, I'm not a snail, but I AM a turtle.  I've always been a turtle, and growing up, I've always been called a turtle.  Fast doesn't "impress" me.  My thing is more about distance.  I like the long haul, the long run.  I know that if I can run faster, I can fit in more miles before the sun goes down.  ;-)

Speed is relative. The pace which is fast for me is very slow for many runners. I enjoy watching the world championships, Olympics, etc. but when I run it is for my own enjoyment. Sure, I would like to be able to run much faster than my current capabilities but if that doesn't happen, I will continue to enjoy running even if it is at a snail's pace.

Yes, I like to keep my hands (and everything relaxed).  It helps me to feel like I'm floating, helps that is.  Now, how to make that "going faster thing" work for me?!  Ha, funny.

I agree Michae. I try to run relaxed as you say. I am unable to spread my toes wide however because they are still deformed from too many years of wearing shoes. They (my toes) have noticably spread somewhat since I started running barefoot but not enough to say that they are spread wide. Maybe a few more years of bf running will allow me to spread them wide.  :o)

I find that the faster i go, the more i need  relaxed everything.. .  my hands,  unless i'm actually sprinting, which i can only do for way less than a quarter  mile,  are spread open and relaxed, as low as possible.  my toes are spread wide also, and my jaw is relaxed, and breathing is calm.

After reading and following Danny Dreyer's advice on arm/hand alignment (exactly as you describe, Mike), and avoiding the swaying back and forth of the arms (not crossing your centerline), I took approximately 1-1/2 minutes off my pace time.

Good insights Mike. I would agree that these are all probably contributing factors.

Jack Cady, who gave me my stride analysis, gave me a contraption made from rubber strapping that goes around the back and attaches to the thumbs. It simulates the motion that you suggest about tucking in the elbows and running with your thumbs about breast high. It does improve one's efficiency.

Thanks Mike.

Also having your arms bent about 90 degrees and driving/pulling with your shoulders, etc.
