Rick, Just got back from a camping trip...didn' t have the laptop handy to check in. Put me down for 12 miles. Got to do some beautiful trail running in the mountains... many were too rough for 100% barefoot.

Quite a week for me. I did my present long run - a 10+ mile route mostly along a tree lined bike path - on 5 days this week. I might be able to extend my long run if I didn't keep doing this one every day, but it's such a joy. Then today, I ran three times to get my "long run" in for the week. During the mid-day heat the pavement was too hot for me to go barefoot so I wore my VFFs, but in the evening I went out for another 5+ barefoot. That made for 26 miles today, about 15.5 barefoot. A daily best.

All told, 57 barefoot miles. Another weekly best.
You all are so supportive. I look to my barefoot running buddies for inspiration, and sometimes when I am feeling down in the dumps, I get caught up on some barefoot running emails/posts, and I'm right back out the door looking forward to a good barefoot run. I guess the last few steps of that 10-miler were so incredibly painful from the Morton's Neuroma (especially in my left foot), that I started to wonder if I will ever achieve my dream of running marathons and ultras, barefoot to boot. It's taken me half a year just to get back up to a 10-mile long run (of which I am proud), as the cold winters make it more difficult to run with neuromas in my feet. I can't wear shoes, as they cripple me from 1 to 3 miles; barefoot has gotten me to at least 10 miles, and I am so thankful for that. I think I can push it to the half marathon distance, but that's exactly what it would be, pushing it. I just want to run long distances. Sometimes I feel so strong, like I could go on and on, but then the neuromas get so inflamed during the run, I have to stop. Strange how the pain subsides to a dull ache on the drive home; so it's something I can live with. I gather hope from knowing that at least the pain does subside. I'm thinking about having cryosurgery this January and pray for a successful recovery. Sometimes the damage from the surgery can be worse than the actual complaint, so I have a lot to consider.
Your words mean so much to me, Greg & Rick. You are good buddies!

TJ, I know the mileage doesn't seem that impressive to you, but lets take a closer look at your long run. Think about how far 10 miles really is and the fact that you ran that far, barefoot. Many people couldn't walk that far even in shoes, but you ran it barefoot. Just remember, your patience is going to pay off in the long run because progressing no faster than the rate your body is ready for is what keeps you healthy and keeps you running. Just think of when you're 85 years old and the circles you're gonna still be able to run around many 20 year olds because you listened to your body now at did what was best for it. Keep up the good work.
ps. 15 miles for me this week.

Good words Greg. Yes, the decisions we make today are our "rocking chair decisions" when we may be rocking in a chair to rest when we are older but will be able to spring right up and take off for a run and surprise all those young whipper-snappers!

TJ, I know the mileage doesn't seem that impressive to you, but lets take a
closer look at your long run. Think about how far 10 miles really is and the
fact that you ran that far, barefoot. Many people couldn't walk that far even
in shoes, but you ran it barefoot. Just remember, your patience is going to pay
off in the long run because progressing no faster than the rate your body is
ready for is what keeps you healthy and keeps you running. Just think of when
you're 85 years old and the circles you're gonna still be able to run around
many 20 year olds because you listened to your body now at did what was best for
it. Keep up the good work.
ps. 15 miles for me this week.
I have 21.86 miles for this past week, with my long run being 10.06. Not where I wish I was at this time in the effort, but patiently, I am getting there. Any encouraging words would be extremely helpful and appreciated.
wonderful words Doug, congrats, and well said... ditto for me on that debt of gratitude...

All:
This is my 155th week of running barefoot. In that time, I have logged 4024.5 miles. My range has increased from a mile at a time 3 days a week to 10 miles at a time 3-5 days a week. I remember back to the time that 5 miles at a time were my limit and I never thought I could run 10 miles barefoot and actually have feet that felt fine immediately after the run. But those days have arrived.
The best thing that I have learned in nearly 3 years is the importance of pacing and listening to your body. It is this lesson that has enabled me to run over 4000 miles in 3 years.
It turns out that I will be celebrating my 156th week of running this coming week in my home town. Thus, as I will be traveling with no internet access, I decided to get my miles for this week, number 155, in early:
40 miles
It has been an interesting journey, and this forum has played an important role in it. I appreciate the fact that there are others, like myself, who have chosen to run barefoot. This has been important grounding for my psyche and I am in debt to all of you for this.
Doug,
It has been a pleasure watching your progress over the past 3 years. You have
consistently been out there ... day after day ... week after week ... ramping up
the bf mileage. I think I can speak for everyone that has been around for a
while, and even for those who are just starting out, how much we appreciate your
contributions to this group.
Blessings on your continued barefoot journey, bro!
Rick
