Barefoot Rick's ESPN Radio (97.3 Kansas City) Interview September 1, 2007
Note: This is an analog to digital conversion (cassette tape to Windows Media) so it is not clear and crisp. A digital recording should be available from the radio station in the next few days. I will replace the present file with the digital file as soon as possible.
Just in case anyone didn't get a chance to read the Trail Runner Mag
article on Barefoot Running (featuring Barefoot Ted), a friend of mine
sent me the PDF and I put it on my website. Enjoy!

For those in the KC Area: If you are early risers, I am scheduled as a feature guest on the Sports Medicine Show this Saturday morning from 7 to 8 a.m. CDT on ESPN Radio 97.3 FM in Kansas City. I will be discussing barefoot running as well as my upcoming fall marathon schedule, by which I hope to raise awareness and donations for the Kansas City Rescue Mission through the Soles For Souls Outreach Program.
For those out of the KC area: Unfortunately, 97.3 does not stream audio over the internet but I will try to get a copy of the program and have it on www.barefootrunner.org soon after the program airs.
21 miles for me. no long run this week.
God is good

rick - thanks for keeping track of our barefoot mileage, even when no running as for my this week (8/19-8/25) after last week's barefoot 5K and triathlon. It will be nice to see the barefoot totals at the end of the year so I'm submitting even when nothing to report. At least it doesn't bring the average down :-)

Victor - Welcome to the bean counters! Yeah, Monday through Sunday is the way I count my mileage ... others count it Sunday through Saturday ... makes no difference if your week ends on Saturday or Sunday. We just do a round up of miles on Sunday however each person's week breaks out.
I keep the main spreadsheet of mileage on my website, but here is how it is breaking out so far this week:

Hello all,
I'm a member of the running barefoot Yahoo group as well. Saw that
Rick has his own group here from his website, so decided to join.
Rick - I thought you had a spot on your website for us to enter our
weekly mileage, but I couldn't find it.
Anyway, I'm going to start contributing my mileage. What constitutes
a week? Is it Monday thru Sunday? Assuming it is, I ran 18.6
barefoot miles. I know you don't track this, but I ride about 50
(soon to increase) barefoot miles on my bike to work each week which
is part of the reason I'm not running more. That and persistent
achilles tendonitis for the past year - sigh...I did make a conscious
effort to relax, relax, relax and tried extra hard to make sure my
feet were landing underneath me which seems to have helped this
morning.
Anyway, glad to be here.
Victor Palma
in Montgomery AL for one year
55.17 BF Miles for me this past week.

For me 14.3 BF miles. Unfortunately I was unable to lower my PB in today's 10K race. Completed it in 44:27. High temps (79F - 86F) and low humidity (20%) broke me.
For me 14.3 BF miles.
Unfortunately I was unable to lower my PB in today's 10K race.
Completed it in 44:27. High temps (79F - 86F) and low humidity (20%) broke me.
Good BF miles to all,
Leonardo.
Finally, some running again:
Wednesday 4.5m
Friday 4.5m
Saturday 7m
Total for week:
16 Miles.
Was surprised how much conditioning I had lost during my two week
break, my 7 mile run seemed really long, and I was running really slowly!
I guess I must take it easy building up again after a break.
Looking forward to being up there again, running more regularly.

Ran just as I planned:
Tue: 8km (part of it intervals on track)
Thu: 7 km
Sat: 5 km
Sun: 8 km
Total: 28 km, i.e. 17.4 BF miles.
All in all beautiful weather (to run that is)
I enjoyed it very much.
If my feet think it's OK I'll add another few miles next week.
My left foot warned me to be careful. I've learned to listen to this
sort of warnings. :-)
have a nice week!
Peter
Over the past several years, I have gotten a lot of comments about my barefoot running. In the same regard, I have had a few folks along the way who have been rather outspoken -- who have literally tried to define who and what I am in a sentence or two. ... More!

Mark me down for 42 miles this week, which included a run at a Nike sponsored training run. I got to inform many people about the benefits of barefoot running. Also me and my brother gained some good credibility as we were two of the fastest runners there, despite being barefoot. Anyway, here is my log,
