Barefoot Running in the Rain
Those who run with shoes will never know the joys of running barefoot
in the rain! Barefoot running, for me, is my play time. It becomes a
smorgasbord of play when it rains -- oh the glorious puddles and all
the splashing!

A big Zero for me as well. Too busy to get a run run in which is
probally good since I injured my Achilles tendon a week ago....a
chance to heal properly.
Have a great week,

Right hip-flexor is still bothering me some, so slower pace miles last

and my average pace was 6:52. That means I ran the extra 0.1 miles for
41 seconds. So for 26.2 miles I actually would have ran a 2:59:56.

Forty BF miles is as far as I've run in one day at the Patriots Run
on 9/11/06 in Olathe Kansas. Since it is a 9 hour and 11 minute timed
run, I am going to try to run 50 miles at this September's event.
Sounds like a good plan, Yanni.

I would do it. In fact, I am planning on doing it this winter. My
longest run with shoes was 37.7 miles. I figure I should try to beat
that and 40 is a nice round number. Have fun.

I might try a personal challange - for the most number of miles run in
a day.
I'll aim for 40 miles and see how I go!
Why 40 miles?
Because I can then run most of the way from my home in London to
Cambridge, to my friend's home!
The whole journey is along a river bank, so it should be really nice.
He'll look after me when I arrive, and I can get the bus home the next
day!
Any thoughts? Can anyone else suggest a different barefoot challange?
This should bring the mileages up a little!

No bringing down the average this week with a big ZERO as I had to put on my flipflop thongs for the first trail race of the year (5 miles) but next week will be able to get at least 19 miles for sure as I only needed the thongs for seven miles of pretty rough surfaces (for me) in the Capital City Marathon on Sunday 5/20. :-)
I'll try to bump it up to 25 at least. (= incentive promise)

None of us are bullet proof when it comes to injuries, Peter.
Although I don't have knee problems anymore (which were cause by
shoes) I have of late been bothered by a hip flexor problem. I hope
we recover quickly.

The standard 10 Barefoot miles for me. Unfortunately I strained my
achilles tendon a bit on some rough trail running and may ease up on
my over all running this week.
I may mention that I was getting lazy on stretching which played into
the injury.

Since my Achilles tendon was aching a little last Sunday when I ran almost 10 miles I decided to take it easy this week. I started Tuesday with a 5 km run, took a rest on Wednesday, and ran 6 km on Thursday. This run went really well, no pain, and faster than I usually run.
Friday I woke up with a strange, painfull feeling in my right foot. Not much, nothing really serious, or so it seemed, so I decided to start with the 8 km run I had plannedn for that day. I told myself beforehand that I should go back home if my foot would be aching too much.
The first couple of km no problem, the pain in my foot, well, Ok, it hurt a little, but nothing serious. (I thought.) At the 3 km point all of a sudden the pain suddenly grew more intense, I couldn't run any further, and even walking was painfull.
I managed to get home, partly walking, partly 'running', and even on Saturday I could barely walk.
Since then it's getting a little better every day, but I thing I should postpone running for a while.
I can hardly accept it, and most of all, I've no idea what originated this pain. Perhaps I ran too fast, not relaxed enough, on Wednesday, but this is only guessing.
I'll be glad if I'll be able to report just a few miles next week.

Will I start to go downhill I wonder with these declining mileages?
I don't have a race on the horizon, so I am running only about 3 days
a week, down from 5 or 6 days, when I was getting ready for the
marathon in the months before it.
Maybe I should put in the odd long weekend run - 2 or 3 hours to keep
the aerobic conditioning up.
