Ken Saxton at www.runningbarefoot.org is a good example of someone who hasn't slowed down running barefoot longer distances. You may have been to his site. He has improved with age (minus this year where he is running a marathon a month which would make anybody's times slower).

Hey Rick,
I'm an old f___ myself -- 64 and counting -- and have no running
history, but find I'm pretty speedy in barefeet, and run "better" Pose
that way, and just got wondering about that and so looked at your
times and then began to ask whether the conditions of bf running
are such that one naturally slows down at the longer distances. So
-- you don't think so. Well, good, one more "barrier" to making the
shift goes away. :)
