Fellow dirt lovers,
One of my favorite stops on the BRRC Billy Goat Series is Sunday July 8 at
8:30 AM at Sweet Air Area of Gunpowder Falls State Park ( It's a toss up between
this run and Hereford Gunpowder ). Race is race day registration only $2 for
BRRC and RASAC members, $6 for others. Course is a beautiful mix of meadows,
woods and single track with two crossings of the Little Gunpowder. This run is
well worth the drive. I hope to see you there.

Join us at AM 1370 WVIE Saturday mornings from 11 to 12 as we talk
running and other things involving health and fitness. This Saturday
our guests will be Jean Knack, President of the Road Runners Clubs of
America, and Dave Cooley, President of the Baltimore Road Runners Club.
I am sure that Jean will have some very relevant information regarding
why the RRCA is very important for all running groups to explore, and
Dave is always up to date on the current running scene in Baltimore,
but we should be able to get some good "war" stories out him too!
AM 1370 on your dial Saturday mornings at 11 AM.
Will Knox is forming a Falls Road Nano Team to compete against other
teams. Requirements are that you train with your IPOD NANO and the
Nike+ Sportkit.
If you have a Nano and want to use the sport kit without being a Nike
Plus-enabled shoe, then Will can help you out with your Brooks or
Asics or Saucony and still get you on the team.
Email jim@... (because I forgot Will's address right
now) and I will forward the info to Will and have his email next week.
The second Baltimore Area Triathlon Club swim/bike/run workout of the summer
will be held on Sunday, 7/1 at the Hammerman Area of the Gunpowder Falls State
Park. The organized workout will consist of a 1,000 yard swim, 15 mile bike and
a 3 mile run. (Feel free to customize your workout to meet your training
needs.)
The workout is open to all local triathletes and is appropriate for all skill
levels (as long as you can swim 1,000 yards). Meet at the parking lot near the
beach. The swim start time will be 9:00.
Please send me an e-mail at raybluejay@verizon. net if you are planning to
attend, so I can provide enough post workout refreshments.
Hope to see you there, Ray

"I have some questions about the 10K at Druid Park this Saturday . My friend
and I are novice runners training for our fist half marathon in September.
1. Is this race appropriate for beginners?
2. Is there a time limit?
3. What if we can't finish?
Now that I have written these questions I suspect this is not the best race
for us.
Thanks for your feedback!"

Note from potential volunteer:
"..asked if I would be lead cyclist, I stated that I would have to ride the
course before to be sure that I would be comfortable with my ability to climb
the hills...and stay in front of the runners. I went out there this morning and
and I'm not your guy for this one. It was a struggle for me to maintain 6 mph on
the switch backs and I can't even use my downhill momentum to get me up the
hills as they all have turns at the bottom.
Reguardless, I I can lead things to the hills but not in the hills. Of course, I
am willing to help out where ever else is needed.

There is race day packet pick-up and walk-up registration for $15 beginning
Saturday morning at 6:30 by the Jones Building next to the swimming pool and
basketball courts. Shirts, if available, are an additional $15. We closed off
shirt sales early, so we should have some extras.
Strollers and wheelchairs - prohibited on this course due to insurance reasons.
Parking - there are new additions and construction projects in Druid Hill Park.
In past years we have asked people to come through the Wyman Park entrance, but
this year we are asking people to take Exit 7 Druid Park Lake Drive as if going
to the Maryland Zoo. The gates to the lake drive will be open almost
immediately on your right. Please drive completely around the lake until
stopped so that we can maximize the parking area.
Due to construction in back of the zoo, we had to shift a portion of the course
into the front part of the park. So the course is "improved" depending upon who
you are talking to at any given point in time.
See you Saturday!

Federal Hill Runner's first ever "Traffic Light Run" is going to take place on
Monday, June 25. What is a traffic light run, you ask? The concept is simple,
it's a social thing to encourage some interaction. Wear something green (a shirt
is best) if you are single, wear yellow if you are maybe possibly looking, and
wear red if you are taken. Or don't play at all - the choice is yours! Then
you'll know who to chat up after the run. At the very least we'll be colorful.
