It's said that Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg was the price the south paid for
Robert E. Lee. Same thing here; this is the price the Patriots pay for having
Bill Belichick as their coach.

I would add that much of the complaining would have to be in
retrospect/hindsight. Who among us would really think that Billy would miss a
4-and-2 call? Still, if you think it through, I'm not too sure that giving
Peyton 1-and-ten on a 29-yard field to play with is not brilliant.

Damn shame though. Even after all these years, I still look forward to the
Colts getting beaten no matter who the opponent, especially when the opponent is
the one they play next weekend.

He had done that kind of call against us as well before so it's not like he just
suddenly came up with it. You're right though, if they had made first down he
would have been called a genius again.

Bellichek went for it on a 4th and 2 with about 2:03 remaining at their 28 with
a 6 point lead.  It was a big balls call.  If they would have converted it, they

I am a Navy Midshipmen fan, all games are broadcasts on the TV btw. If not
network TV then on CBS sport channel. Anyhow very entertaining offense is Navy's
offense. The QB has rushed for 21 TD's and missed 1 full game and another 3/4th
of a game or else he would have around 25td's and Navy would be 8-2 instead of
7-3. The Midshipmen came within a 2 point conversion of going to OT with Ohio
State in there 1st loss and the 2nd loss Navy held their own versus Pitt. The
3rd loss without Ricky Dobbs at QB for 3 quarters they where upset by Temple.
Anyhow interesting team, you should check them out and they are more local to
Baltimore then College Park.

I posted some opinions about the University of Maryland sports program, in which
I trashed Ralph Friedgen, Gary Williams, and Debbie Yow. Ultimately it's Yow's
fault for losing sight of the big ticket items for the sake of Title IX sports,
especially considering that they are not mutually exclusive, but Ralph and Gary
are not helping to right the simking ship either, that's for sure.

If it's still around here somewhere, you should read what I wrote, becasue we
lost 36-09 to Virginia Tech today, making us 2-8 on the season and eliminating
us from bowl consideration, a borderline impossibility considering how many bowl
games there are.

Oh well, so be it. I never expected to have to add John Harbaugh to that list,
either.

He didn't cost much.

And I recall him having a punt that was key to us winning a game once.

Lewis says Mangini overworking Browns

By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer

2 hours, 50 minutes ago

BEREA, Ohio (AP)—Cleveland Browns running back Jamal Lewis said he's frustrated
by another losing season and believes coach Eric Mangini is pushing his players
too hard.

Lewis, who intends to retire after this season, said Thursday that he doesn't
want to be a "babysitter" to Cleveland's younger players. He wants to win and
expressed disappointment that two- and three-hour practices aren't translating
into wins for the team, which has a 1-7 record.

"There's talent all over this locker room, young and old," he said before
practice. "There's talent everywhere, but that talent has got to be ready for
Sunday, it's got to be fresh for Sunday. You can work all day, but if you're
going to work like that, you're probably not going to get what you want out of
your players."

While Lewis doesn't mind working hard, he said Mangini is wearing out his
players. The team captain said he hasn't approached his coach about making
changes.

"This is his show, not mine," Lewis said. "You got to take care of your crop. If
you don't, when it comes time to harvest, you're not going to make no money
because the crop is no good. That's that."

Lewis said the length and intensity of Mangini's practices are not the issue,
it's that the first-year coach's approach isn't producing wins.

"If I'm going to come out here and work the way I work, then I want results,"
Lewis said. "Right now, that's not what's going on. I feel like it's just a
waste of time for me."

Earlier, Mangini said he has changed his approach and adjusted this season.

Lewis was asked to comment on the coach's stance.

"Next question," he said.

POST 155 ARE U NUTS AND IS LEWIS NUTS!!!??? great talent? where ? have they made
the playoffs ever with this so called great talent. the team is absolute
goarbage in fact last years lions team had more talent and was more competitive
in games than this years team. Edwards rops passes , lewis is too old and slow,
no QB'S nothing, i mean ur best players are a kick returner in cribbs and a DT
in rodgers and dequell Jackson is solid, other than that this team is absolute
garbage. I mean the bears played awful, get ripped on for the win yet the score
was still 30-6! how bad is this team!at least last year the lions had calvin
johnson, kevin smith and ernie sims! great talent are u kidding Talent hell mora
should answer that question, this roster has absolutely nothing, blow up the
team

I think the Browns players a just angry that the excessively soft coaching style
of Crennel has ended abruptly, and he's been replaced with a serious coach who
expects them to act and perform like professionals.

not to defend mangini jamal is only averageing 58 yrd a game 0 td 349 yards
total I would have his ass out there to practicing.2 or 3 hrs a day for the
amount of money they make

158. Posted by Thayer Thu Nov 12 4:22pm EST

Working too hard? These are supposed to PROFESSIONAL athletes!! Two hours is
pretty much normal lengths for practice from the time an athlete hits jr. high.
my theory is that isn't the coaching as much as it is the fact that the Browns
have nothing but sucky quarterbacks and a dinosaur for a running back.

157. Posted by Steve Thu Nov 12 4:22pm EST

shut it all down

156. Posted by EricT Thu Nov 12 4:21pm EST

I can't believe anyone is defending Mangini. The guy is a proven looser. His
record is sub .500 and that was BEFORE he joined the Browns.

He systematically stripped the Browns of all of their talent. He traded Edwards
and Winslow. He let Sean Jones walk and has destroyed whatever Brady Quinn might
have had. That's 3 first rounders and a 2nd rounder among others. On top of that
I fully expect Josh Cribbs to walk as soon as he can. Hey Mangini might even
trade him before he looses his job just to set Cleveland back another couple
years.

You absolutely do NOT get rid of talent in the NFL. What he got in return for 3
first rounders and a second is NOTHING but some NY Jets retreads. The Jets are
better off without those players AND Mangini.

I am not saying I can coach the Browns or anyone else for that matter but a Head
coach is not there to truly coach but to manage. He needs to assemble the best
in his staff and his team. He has not done that. top that off with guys not
wanting to play for him and he's done in this league.

155. Posted by lcctennispro Thu Nov 12 4:15pm EST

I think Jamal has handled himself like a true pro and has set a great example
for the younger Browns. He's been a mentor to Harrison and shown a great work
ethic. He's frustrated and you can't blame him. All true Browns fans are
frustrated. The Browns have had some good, if not great, talent, but they've
been let go or traded away, primarily the receivers: Jurevicious, Winslow,
Edwards. The team they had two years ago has been replaced by ex-Jets and
players who lack the same skill level as the players we had in 2007. Now, thanks
to Mangini, we're three years away from being playoff contenders again. Mangini
has to go. He doesn't have what it takes to rebuild. He's made this team worse!
Schottenheimer would be a good pick. So would Cowher. Get a good GM in there who
can evaluate talent on the team and talent in the draft. We have a lot of draft
picks next year, so getting a good GM is important if we're going to rebuild.

145. Posted by traveling gyn Thu Nov 12 3:59pm EST How bout the idiot that
thinks bringing Cower into Cleveland would make them winners. Steelers would
have won at least three championships under Cower if he wasn't so pig headed and
narrow minded. Yeah, he can bring Kordell with him to replace Brady Quinn.....

----------------------------------------------------------

I might be wrong on this one but I thought Cower said he would never coach for
the browns? Can you blame him?

153. Posted by Paul Thu Nov 12 4:10pm EST

Being from Baltimore, I can tell you Jamal Lewis is a cry baby, lazy ass,
over-paid has-been. He has NEVER been worth what he has been paid, and is only
living off his one Super Bowl season. It's a good thing he's retiring. Maybe
Cleveland will find a good use for the money they spend on his lazy ass.

152. Posted by Tommy Thu Nov 12 4:10pm EST

So, Jets players from the past couple seasons under Mangini went through the
same training and no one complained about being worked too hard. Mangini does
the same stuff with the Browns and they complain that it's too hard? Makes you
wonder if it's the coach or the players around him....

Byner.

Lewis, should have manned up, and gone to the coach to express his sentiments,
instead of the press. Keep it in house dude.

  160. Posted by buttonflyguy469 Thu Nov 12 4:22pm EST
maybe lewis would rather flip burgers at Jack"s. seem like they could have a
team reunion in a couple years. and nobody would really care. oppps, sorry,
seems that you have to work for eight hours instead of standing around for 4
hours and excersing for about 45 minutes. nice gig, lewis. spend you money on
tyson defense fund.

total I would have his ass out there to practicing.2 or 3 hrs a day for the
amount of money they make

We have a lot of draft
picks next year, so getting a good GM is important if we're going to rebuild.

thinks bringing Cower into Cleveland would make them winners. Steelers would
have won at least three championships under Cower if he wasn't so pig headed and
narrow minded. Yeah, he can bring Kordell with him to replace Brady Quinn.....

------------------------------------------------------------

Benitez was a good closer for at least part of his career, he just had maturity

to get the last guy.

to get the last guy.

Absolutely. Alan Mills. I stand corrected. I confused him with Benitez
becasue of that other big fight, I guess.

And yes, the Benitez fight was pretty cool, too. Had something to do with
hitting a batter, I think. On the baseball front, Benitez turned out to be a
pretty good closer for quite a few years, though most of them in the NL, mainly
the Mets. I'm not too sure why we gotr rid of him, though I think we can safely
assume that, as usual, we did not get a hell of a great return on the deal.

That was Alan Mills in the Seattle brawl, not Armando Benetiz. Benetiz did not
pop up up until 1997 when he gave up that grand slam in game 6 with 2 outs in
the 8th up 3-0. Benetiz was involved in a huge Yankee-Oriole brawl in or around
1998 or 1999.

mainly with Houston and San Diego. And Pete Harnisch, no HOF to be sure, but
five or six years solid years, mostly with Cincinnati, as a valuable and
successful member of the rotation.

The guy who doubled home a run in his very first at-bat as an Oriole. Many more
to come, we thought. Especially after he hit his first home run ... one of 24,
which is not too bad, I must say, back in those days before steroids. Not too
bad that is, until you realize that his total of 24 was for ALL THREE YEARS he
was here!!

gotten injured so that he could retire while getting paid. Davis felt as bad or
worse than anyone else. He kept trying, but the more he tried, the worse he
got.

a strikeout. Got hurt in a barfight that he didn't start. Got hurt getting
bopped on the head in the dugout by a hard line drive foul ball by one of his
own guys.

them win anyway.

you saw it, you'll know the that particular one that was it. Everyone
remembers The Fight, but nobody remembers Glen Davis' four or five strikeouts
that game. I'll bet every Seattle Mariner who had his head torn out of it's
roots and off it's shoulder by Armando Benitez certainly remembers it. People
think he was a lunatic, but he simply knew what everyone knew - that Mike
Mussina had to be protected or the season was over that day. And surely enough,
Moose was hurt that day despite Armando's best efforts and despite the club's
denials. No way he was recovered until '95 at least. "Yeah, and Mussina wasn't
hurt in The Fight", became a generic snotty reply for denying anything at all.

Glenn Davis. The name itself makes your neck hairs stand up.

Traded for Curt Schilling, a legitimate Hall of Fame candidate who played for
Philly, Arizona, Boston. And Steve Finley, probably no HOF candidate -
borderline at best - but fifteen solid years as an outstanding centerfielder
mainly with Houston and San Diego. And Pete Harnisch, no HOF to be sure, but
five or six years solid years, mostly with Cincinnati, as a valuable and
successful member of the rotation.

You can define this thing anyway you wish, but there is only one Glenn Davis.
The guy who doubled home a run in his very first at-bat as an Oriole. Many more
to come, we thought. Especially after he hit his first home run ... one of 24,
which is not too bad, I must say, back in those days before steroids. Not too
bad that is, until you realize that his total of 24 was for ALL THREE YEARS he
was here!!

To be fair, he was not Albert Belle, who was more thrilled than anyone to have
gotten injured so that he could retire while getting paid. Davis felt as bad or
worse than anyone else. He kept trying, but the more he tried, the worse he
got.

And when he wasn't bad, he was unlucky: Got hurt swinging the bat too hard on a
strikeout. Got hurt in a barfight that he didn't start. Got hurt getting
bopped on the head in the dugout by a hard line drive foul ball by one of his
own guys.

You had to live through the three to five remarkable years of the Glenn Davis
era to understand the greatness of it. It was like living through World War One
and trying to explain it to people: Nobody could understand what the hell you
were fighting for, but they knew that you had been through something special.

Anyone in here remember 0-21? Did you put your head lights on? I did for
awhile, but it became clear soon enough to the whole town that we were all going
to have to buy new headlights if we kept it up an that it was not going to help
them win anyway.

How about The Fight? There were lots of fights but only one The Fight, and if
you saw it, you'll know the that particular one that was it. Everyone
remembers The Fight, but nobody remembers Glen Davis' four or five strikeouts

And then, of ocurse, was the 'Why Not' season. One season after 0-21, nobody
could beat us. A kid named Dave Johnson came out of nowhere. He had no
fastball, no curveball, no changeup (or all changeups, depending upon how you
looked at it!). Basically, no anything. But if he wanted that ball to wind up
one inch nothwest of the plate, it would wind up one inch northwest of the
plate. Location, location, location. And a rookie closer named Gregg Olsen
would come in in the ninth and nothing throw curveballs that roll fall off a
table to the first two batters and then throw three seriously wicked fastballs
to get the last guy.

Well, that what it was like with Glenn Davis. The funny thing is that he wasn't
even on the team for much of it. Didn't matter; he karma was everywhere in the
Baltimore Metro area. I know it sounds trite, but I don't know how else to put
it: You had to live through those three or four years - roughly 1988 to 1993 -
to believe it.

return. I dont consider Carr a blockbuster FA but Foxworth was paid big bucks so
he gets strong consideration but it is early in his Raven career.

Davis was a trade folks....Most of the FA signing in Bmore have pretty much paid
a return. I dont consider Carr a blockbuster FA but Foxworth was paid big bucks
so he gets strong consideration but it is early in his Raven career.

If it was Suggs of 3 or 4 years ago,I'd be fine with it. But there's no way this
guy should be the highest paid LB in the game and i don't think he's worth 60
some million bucks, the way he's playing now.The big difference between this year
and last year is the absense of Scott and Leonard. Landry isn't a hitter and
Scott just had a nose for the ball.

I knew fang would bring up Glenn Davis even though he was traded for lol.
