I remember this guy - he was picked right in front of Jonathan Ogden   Message List

Re: I remember this guy - he was picked right in front of Jonathan Ogden

Right. If you sign a contract, you sign a contract. If I sign for
five years and suck, the team should have to pay me. If I sign for
five years and wind up being great, the team should not have to
renegotiate. If I so desire, I should sign for one year. That will
give me leverage if I play well. If I sign for five years, I am
potentially sacrificing extra money for security. It is a decision
between the player and the team, and the terms to which they
originally agree should stand.

That's not the way it is but the way it should be. In real life,
contracts are made up front with the bonus, i.e. the guaranteed
money. Samari Rolle signed a six-year deal with the Ravens. Does
anyone truly believe that he will be here six years? At some point
he will be a salary cap cut. Whatever he got up front in the form of
a signing bonus is his gravy money, because the Ravens cannot avoid
paying it. Both sides make out and both sides take a hit, just in
different ways.

William's signing bonus back?
