I saw this today that he needs to play 140 games in the field this
season for a $4.5 mil option to kick in. He's a few games short of it
and has been told that they want to get Gibbons some time at 1B.
Seems that Palmiero is pissed but isn't saying much about it.
If I'd have heard about this in April, I wouldn't have given him much
chance at 140, what do you all think? Personally I think he's just
about done anyway, the O's would be stupid to let him play what he
needs to get to 140 now, he ain't worth $$.5 mil.
Besides didn't they reaquire him to be predominatly a DH? 140 of 162
in the field was pretty much a stretch.
Julio sucks. I have had enough of Julio for one lifetime.

Royals 26, Tigers 5, 1st game
Preview - Box Score - Recap

DETROIT (AP) -- Joe Randa wore himself out.
He had six hits and tied a major league record by scoring six times
Thursday, helping the Kansas City Royals break a club mark for runs
in a 26-5 rout of the Detroit Tigers in the first game of a
doubleheader.
Randa had five singles and a double, but he wasn't in the starting
lineup for the second game.
``He's awfully tired from running the bases,'' Royals manager Tony
Pena cracked.
Randa also had two RBIs in a game in which the Royals matched an
American League record by putting 13 straight runners on base in an
11-run third inning. It was the most runs allowed by the Tigers in a
nine-inning game -- Detroit allowed 24 runs twice. Randa also became
the first AL player to have six hit and six runs in the same nine-
inning game.
``I'm just glad we can get right out there for the second game,''
said Rondell White, who homered for Detroit. ``After a game like
that, you want to be back on the field as fast as you can.''

The Royals had 26 hits against five Tigers pitchers. Angel Berroa
had a three-run homer and career-high five RBIs, and Alberto
Castillo knocked in a career-best four runs.
Zack Greinke (8-9) got the win, allowing three runs in five innings
as the Royals improved to 11-7 against the Tigers this season.
``They've got a real good team, but we play our best baseball
against them,'' Pena said.
Jason Johnson (8-13) dropped to 0-5 in his last seven starts,
allowing 11 runs -- nine earned -- in 2 1/3 innings.
Kevin Seitzer was the last Kansas City player with six hits in a
game, on Aug. 2, 1987, and Shawn Green was the last major leaguer to
score six times, on May 23, 2002. Green also had six hits in that
game.
The previous Royals' record for runs scored in a game was 23,
against Minnesota on April 6, 1974. The major league record for a
nine-inning game is 29 runs by the Boston Red Sox against St. Louis
on June 8, 1950. The mark was tied by the White Sox against Kansas
City on April 23, 1955.
Ten days ago, the New York Yankees lost to Cleveland 22-0 for the
worst defeat in team history.

Kansas City took a 4-0 lead in the first, then made it 6-0 in the
second on Berroa's RBI triple and a run-scoring wild pitch. The
Tigers made it 6-2 in the bottom half on Craig Monroe's 15th homer,
but the Royals put the game away in the third with one of its
biggest innings.
Matt Stairs led off with a groundout, but the next 13 batters
combined for three walks, two doubles and eight singles against
three pitchers.
By the time Ruben Gotay popped out to end the streak, the Royals had
scored 11 runs, one short of a team record, and led 17-2. All nine
Royals scored at least once in the inning.
The inning also featured the inauspicious major league debut of
Tigers' reliever Lino Urdaneta. He came in for Johnson and faced six
batters, allowing six runs on five hits and a walk.
Kansas City got a walk and four singles in the fourth to increase
the margin to 19-2 before White hit a solo homer in the bottom of
the inning.
The Royals added five more runs in the sixth, including their first
homer of the game, a three-run shot by Berroa.
That doesnt boehter me. Every closer snaps from time to time. Even
the best of them do that. Julio is still young I would not want to
see him wind up in the wrong uniform. I think he will really turn it
on in a couple of years. Ryan proved to me he cant close and he
loves his role.
Speaking of Armando he is doing a fine job down in Florida.

I kind of doubt it. Unless the O's trade him and decide to take in another
closer or put Ryan in as the closer role and get a new leftie reliever. Julio
has been decent for us this year though, I say keep him for now but he needs to
get his ass in gear.

Hey guys, what do you make of the poor showing of sportsmanship that Julio made
when he almost tore a guy's head off after he gave up the game winning homerun
to the previous guy?
[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I don't want to see them overpay just because they have the money.
Milton's ok it just depends on his price. I'd like to see a trade for a Brad
Radke who's a proven workhorse.
Mags and Beltran would be nice too. I really don't see Raffy coming back here
next year and I think Gibbons will be traded and Matos if we get Beltran.
The guy with the highest trade value is probably Mora and they might be willing
to move him because of his age.
It's really hard to say what's going to put them at the next level/ I'd say 2
proven hitters and 2 starters. If they sign a #1 and 2 Lopez would then become
good trade bait.
I just don't have that much faith in Beattiegan.
Hey has anybody noticed the tank job going on at Cleveland..I guess Hargrove's
pulling the strings there now lol

Hey guys, Pete said that he is willing to spend major dough for the free agency
and we could spend as much as $50 million on the free agency. With that much
bankroll, who would you make an attempt for in the free agency and what
positions do you think will be worked on?
Starting Pitching:
1. Eric Milton- He's a left handed starter who's a definate number one starter.
Although his ERA is high, the Phillie's infield doesn't have much defense which
causes the ERA to fluctuate. Also, he's got a heck of a sinkerball which will
cause more groundouts and strikeouts.
2. Odalis Perez- Another leftie who is not an ace but a definate number 2
starter who could become a potential ace someday. He's only 27 and could be a
very good investment for the O's rotation.
3. Matt Clement- Not an ace, but a possible number 2 workhorse that can eat up a
lot of innings and give the relievers more save opportunities in close games.
Batting:
1. Carlos Beltran- One of the best hitters available on the market who is only
27 years old. Many people are saying that the Yankers are a shoo-in to get him
but with the extra bank, we should definately be able to compete for him. Fast,
strong, and hits the hell out of the ball, a great investment.
2. Magglio Ordonez- If the team decides to move Raphael to the DH role, then
Gibbons will most likely go to first. Maggs would power up the lineup some and
since he was hurt this year, he could come cheap.
Anyways, these are my thoughts. What do you guys think?

I don't know what I want more--- the O's to beat the Sox, or the Sox to beat the
O's, thus increasing the likelihood that the Yankers might not make the
playoffs.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Yankees asked the commissioner's office to award
them a forfeit over Tampa Bay after the Devil Rays failed to arrive in time for
the scheduled start Monday because of travel problems in Florida due to
Hurricane Frances.
The doubleheader was changed to a single game and the start time, pushed back

``Get everything down in print as you will. I have no comment.'' Tampa Bay owner
Vince Naimoli said.
A forfeit didn't appear to be likely.
``Given the stage of the season we are in, and the exciting pennant races, it is
critical that we do everything to decide the championship on the field,''
commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement.
Tampa Bay's home games against Detroit on Saturday and Sunday were postponed,
and the Tigers returned home after Friday night's games.
``There were plenty of opportunities to get out of Tampa on Saturday. The
airports were open until 3 or 4 o'clock.'' Levine said.
Devil Rays spokesman Rick Vaughn said the Devil Rays had never intended to leave
before Monday.

``I would like to stay if there's a chance to play,'' he said.
The Yankees reported to Yankee Stadium at noon for the doubleheader.
``Let's get a grill,'' Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina said. ``Hot dogs and burgers
on the field.''

By the way dude I never brought up Clinton and his non military record because I
dont have that right because i was never in the military myself. So I leave
that issue alone. I have had Heart Surgery but it was Open Heart. I really
have to wander if that diet was good for Clinton he is not the 1st to be on that
carb no card low card diet to have to have Bypass. I think this has to be
addressed before others go on this diet.

they get pitching.

So the Yanks have never won a World Series with a Republican in the
White House? Finally a reason to give Sparky four more years. ROTFL

Same as the previous few years, the final goal I've had for the O's
is to get win 63, so as not to lose 100. Now that that is almost
certain, next is 70 wins or this year seeing that last year they won
72 or something, I'm pulling for them to surpass that number. A .500
season is pretty much remote. They have 6 games left vs NY and 8 vs
Boston. Althought they've killed the Bosox and have a shot at
knocking them out in October. It looks like another season simular to
last. After spending bucks for free agents the front office can't be
too thrilled, should have invested a little more in pitching. I
didn't think they'd improve much without upgrading the pitching staff.
Nice to see loyal diehard fans that'll stick by their favorite team
when they kind of suck. You want to win all the time? Jump on the
Yankee bandwagon.
Please try not to be so vulgur.

Eddie has done wanders with that young lineup. One FACT of the day, the
Yankees have never won a World Series when a Republican is the
President.........
Got you Fang on the fact of the day.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
After decades of villiany and injustice, a glimmer a radiant sunshine
has broken forth across the land. The New York Yankees, the "Best
