I wasn't expecting Foxy to be all that good. But I didn't dream for the life of
me that he would be so incredibly bad. He's completely useless in man-to-man
and using zone to cover his ass keeps Ed Reed from doing all that crazy Ed Reed
shit that he does which wind up in defensive touchdowns.

Brewers decline $6.5 million option on Looper
1 hour, 57 minutes ago

MILWAUKEE (AP)—The Milwaukee Brewers declined their $6.5 million mutual option
on Braden Looper, electing to pay the pitcher a $1 million buyout.

The 35-year-old right-hander filed for free agency later Friday. Milwaukee had
until Saturday to decide whether to exercise the option.

After signing with the Brewers as a free agent on Feb. 12, Looper went 14-7 with
a 5.22 ERA. He made at least 30 starts for the third straight season and
established a career high in wins, which led the team. He also set a franchise
record with 39 homers allowed, which led the majors, while also topping big
league pitchers in runs (123).

Arizona Fall League recap -- Nov. 12

The Phoenix Desert Dogs took control of the Arizona Fall League East Division
with an 11-5 victory over the second-place Mesa Solar Sox tonight.

With the victory, the Desert Dogs (15-11) increased their lead to 2 1/2 games
over the Solar Sox (12-13) in the division. Each team has six games remaining,
including two head-to-head matchups.

A quick note before I forget -- I'm heading out of town for the weekend.

My goal is to keep posting the game recaps for the fall showcase, but there is
no guarantee that I'll have Internet access. I apologize in advance if I'm
unable to post.

Phoenix Desert Dogs

Score: Phoenix Desert Dogs 11, Mesa Solar Sox 5 (Box score)

Recap: Orioles minor league third baseman Josh Bell was 2-for-5 with three RBIs
in the Desert Dogs' win.

Relief pitcher Josh Perrault tossed one scoreless inning for the Desert Dogs.
The Orioles minor league right-hander struck out two batters and allowed one
hit. Perrault threw 15 of his 18 pitches for strikes.

In nine games in Arizona, Perrault is 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA.

None of the other Orioles minor leaguers played in today's game.

Yahoo Movies ranked the ten worst cities to live in a movie disaster film.

#1 was Tokyo, of course, due to their being eaten by nuclear-ingested lizards
since the beginning of the cold war. Mothra, Garganuan, Gorgo, and a host of
other scaly fellows are not happy with that town, perhaps due to as much to
their poor film speech dubbing abilities as their reptiles.

Other big winners were New York and Washington DC due to their being financial
heavyweights as well as the seat of government. Movie monsters and/or aliens
like to eliminate both, although with their assumed lack of a stock portfilio,
I'm not too sure why they care about NYC. I'm thinking maybe it's the Yankees.

Anyway, to my amazement, there at #10 under "Nukes and Bad Crab Cakes" (as well
as bad jokes, I must say - NOBODY can touch our crabcakes) was none other than
our very own Baltimore. Most of it comes from one film - "The Sum of All Fears"
- a Tom Clancy military potboiler about a terrorist nuclear attack on Baltimore
during a Ravens game. In the end, it turns out that due to Anita Marks'
attendance at the game, it wasn't so bad after all, but modern day fictional spy
Jack Ryan, though too late to stop the attack, manages to catch the bad guys,
assuring that next week's game against the Steelers is still on, thus allowing
us a 12-4 record and a wild card spot if we sweep this and every other game.

On the other hand, it gives Dan Uggla another excuse not to come here in a swap:

Right. Cracked me up when I saw our getting the shaft not one day after teasing
us. My guess is that it's all crap and that he saw that we were interested, and
with no leverage as to where he can go, he figured putting it out there that he
can only play where Brian Roberts plays was his best shot of avoiding our taking
the plunge.

We are clearly not ever scheduled to catch a break in this version of the
13,000-year Mayan Calendar, so why try? Hopefully, 2013 will be a very good
year as Year-1 of another 13,000-year Hot Stove session.

Uggla has corner infield and outfield pop, hitting at least 31 home runs in each

That's not good. He has tons of money and no desire to be top dog, thus making
him the perfect minority owner.

But according to you guys, I suppose I should start using this "has tons of
money" phrase in the past tense, i.e. "HAD tons of money". How much does that
suck?

He wouldn't be a majority owner. All those people I mentioned would be minority
owners. Per the rules, Cal Ripken would be the one and only majority owner.

But since Angelos is going to keep the team for another fifty years, I don't
really know why we are even discussing it.

I wouldn't be so sure about Geppi. His company laid off a few people due to the
economy, including yours truly, although it may not have anything to do with his
net worth I don't think he'll be a majority owner anytime soon.

First of all, I'm not too sure of that.  But assuming you are correct (and you
probably are), Cal would not be buying it out of petty cash he keeps in his
kitchen.  He would be a 51% owner.  He has contacts from here to eternity,
including most of the Angelos minority owners - Billy R., Pam Shriver, Steve
Geppi, and others.

Big difference between Arietta and Hernandez, though. I'm not sure I'd take it
(if I were they) for the second guy but I would definitely take it for the
first. Throw in Turner with Hernandez, however, and it might be too much for a
team captivated by youth to turn down.

Also, taking defense into consideration, I'm starting to wonder if Uggla is a
fit. Turner/Hernandez for Uggla could turn out to be two lousy players for one
lousy player!

Maybe if they throw in Hanley Ramirez and Josh Johnson, we'll give them back the
.231-BA-12-RBI backup catcher we just got from them.

Yo Zeppers, Modell was the first person I thought of as well. Great minds and
all that.... But technically, he is still a minority owner in the NFL. and I'm
not too sure how that plays. I know you can't be a majority owner of both. But
minority owner .....?

As for Chip Mason, of whom I assume you meant, didn't he have some financial
problems with the SEC a few years ago? Not criminal, I don't think, but some
sort of not enough money to do this or that. I wish I could remember the
details or even knew more about the guy.

The other thing is...Detroit has a bunch of people that are potential
closers. Didn't they lose their closer for the year this year, and then had
someone who stepped in and did a good job?

Well, you know, that was - in part, at least - how we defeated communism.
Kmnowing that today's kids are tomorrow's leaders, we flooded the Russian black
market with the White Album, Madonna, and blue jeans under the Carter and
early-to-middle Reagan administrations.

Stealing the children of your enemy is a marvelous idea, and in this case, it
worked beautifully. No, it was not the be all and end all in the Cold War, but
it was a big shot in the arm.

Ok, I was thinking that you were vomiting over this particular deal when, in
fact, you were ralphing over the potential deal that the O's could have made but
didn't.

Well, I would certainly have to agree that you might be right, but it's a bit

Also, I seriously doubt that Jackson was available during the stretch run, which
