Re: BaltimOrioles Vlad

Vlad is a right fielder. I have never heard that he plays center. Yankees
outfield will be, L-R, Matsui, Lofton, Sheffield.

At the beginning of the season, Tejada was told that he would not be back - and
he struggled. Over the second half of the season, he started producing -
hitting at an over .325 clip, with most of his HRs and RBIs. The Orioles offer
to Vlad is slightly better than Tejada, averaging out at $13M as opposed to
$12M.

reach the playoffs this year. He did play 62 of the last 64 games
for the Expos. So right there is proof that his back is healed. If
the Orioles don't move fast another team will swoop in and sign him
like last year with Cliff Floyd, I-Rod, etc. They should at least
offer the same as Tejada. Vlad is a better hitter and more of a
threat than Tejada. Tejada is not going to be a superstar he was 2
years ago. Last year he showed it he is going to be an average
hitter he will hit @ 265 avg, 24 homeruns and 80-90 RBI's. Where
Vlad could be a 300 hitter 35 homeruns 100+ RBI's and 15-20 stolen
bases. He is the type of threat the Orioles need in there line-up.
I would not be surprised if the Marlins, Yankees or even the Red Sox
end up signing him. Just imagine if he ends up with the Yankees,
Sheffield, Vlad and Matusi in there out field and Williams being the
DH. Or with Boston Manny, Vlad and Nixon. The Orioles need this guy,
Gibbons, Vlad and if Matos can have a year like last, they would have
a nice out field. But they also would need to bring back Palmero to
be a real contender.

Vlad won't be going to the Yankees since he has not interest in going there. The only other team I can see attempting to try and sign him are the Marlins, but...

It's not that uncommon for this to happen. When you think about it, the O's were critisized heavily during Matsui's signing with the Yanks. Several teams...
