RE: [BakerviewBMX] Rule question / racing concerns---Sent to ABA

From what limited knowledge I posses, the rider in question needs to cross the finish line.
Cut the track and wait, but still needs to finish...I may be incorrect on this.

Subject: [BakerviewBMX] Rule question / racing concerns---Sent to ABA

I'm not one to make waves but I had a legitimate question about racing
rules and I wanted an unbiased answer. The following was sent to the
ABA. If they are not concerned then no foul, no problem. Let the
points fall where they may. If there is a problem, we'll deal with it
accordingly.--------

Hello, My son, William Burd, 12 expert, races BMX and his home track
is Bakerview BMX in Mount Vernon, Wa. WA01. I don't like bothering
anyone with questions like this but there have been enough other
parents talking about it I had to check it out with someone that would
know. I was given your name by our track operator and he said you
could probably help me out with this. What are the restrictions for
racing with an injury (broken leg just out of the cast)? Is it, or is
it not legal to roll off the gate and immediately turn around and go
back to staging lanes or spectator area with out finishing the race?
Not even riding to the first obstacle! I don't mean once and a while
but every moto and main event. He is getting 3rd place expert points
doing this. This has happened over the last two weeks of racing at
River Valley BMX and I'm suspect he will continue till the end of the
season. My son races against him and asked me about it. I checked the
rule book but didn't really find anything that applied (not real good
at going through so many rules). I didn't mention the boy's name just
in case he is playing by the book. If there is a problem, let me know
and I will file a complaint against him or what ever I have to do. I
don't want to cause any trouble but I just want the racing to be fair.
Thank you for your time and info on this matter.
Respectfully, Bruce Burd

In this case it doesn't make a class. Plenty of kids were there about the same age to make a class. I just wonder how it would be scored if another rider did...

The rider who actually rode the track would get the better finish. If neither rode the track, they should be put to last (both of them) and given rider points...

I can understand crashing and not finishing but it's the intentional DNFs EVERY time, moto after moto, day after day, week after week that makes me wonder....
