Hi all,

I have a set of 24" Velocity Uriel wheels + skewers, with a carbon Johnson fork.
These were
taken off a recently purchased Ti Aero with less than 500 miles. The set also
comes with
Schwalbe stelvio's and an extra tube. $300 takes it all. Reason for selling.
Went to 650c's.

Thanks Andy

And I thought Rich would be bringing an 09 Carbon Aero demo bike!

I guess the steak tips will have to do. They were good last year.
Should be a good time and the forecast is great for Saturday.

I just talked to John Hoyt, and the schedule is very loose.  We will leave on rides of various lengths at ~9AM on Saturday.  I will trying to get back to the Lodges by noon to start BBQ'ing and cooking, and doing some demo rides after 1PM.   Belmont Wheelworks was kind enough to lend us 3 bikes for the demo's.  Thanks Scott, Clint and BWW!

Other rides, group dinners and exploring the coast around John and Ann's beautiful lodge will be optional.

And for everyone coming from out of town, The address for the Lodge is...

Probably has to do with using apostrophes in your plurals, despite that they don't belong there. (;-)

OTOH, I've seen several emails with that problem, and it seems to be a code issue. Some email clients read differently than others.

Thanks for the response, Rich. I am looking for the
Euromesh/Aluminum. Right now I have the wider mesh seat. My
impression is that you can get better leverage with the
Euromesh/aluminum, for climbing hills. Carbon, of course would be
great, but even a used version there would definitely eclipse my
price range.

By the way, I'm having a lot of fun with the bike. I'm going to wait
a month before I write a full review, but initial impressions are
definitely positive. You guys seem to have found the right
performance recumbent formula.

hi all,

Just to let you know that we are having a recumbent gathering weekend Sept 19th 20th here at our lodges www.hoytslodges.com in Rye NH. This event is going to coincide with the Wheelmen's Century Ride and The East Coast Greenway inauguration ride. Lots of things going on, lots of energy!

Rich pinto will be there and has promised to have some demos on hand for all of us to ride and to also ply us with his world famous BBQ ribs.

Lynette Chiang from Bike Friday will be here also but this time we are getting her on to a recumbent. She gracefully did the write up of last year's gathering http://www.bikefriday.com/ryerecumbent07

I'm in the process of having an East Coast Greenway rep present to give us a short talk....I mean short...no long winded talkers here!

And there will be another luminary present to talk about bike lighting.

Weather permitting, it should be a blast.

Zeke

    Hi Ryan

Bacchetta makes two narrow seats, a carbon hardshell/reticulated foam seat, and a Euromesh seat  (aluminum and mesh/reticulated foam)

We also make a our standard seat, a much wider mesh back and foam seat.

Just to make sure I understand you, you wanted the Euromesh aluminum and mesh seat?

I ride a Bacchetta Corsa. I have a drawer full of lights I've used over the years. The last several years I had been using dual Cateye EL-530's which were pretty good on flat roads.  Not great, but pretty good.  I was able to ride brevets through the night and was able to navigate pretty well.  I also have some Performance Bike water bottle battery 6watt lights (made by Marwi USA).  I love those but only get 5-6 hours of light.

Last fall (2007) I took the plunge and invested in high quality lights.  I had a Velocity rim laced to the Schmidt Dynohub (32 spokes), and am running the DLumotec LED with stand light as my primary light, with an E6 secondary. These suckers are not only a great combo on the flats, but I can run down hill at 30mph and have good visibility. The other upside is that as long as the wheels are turning, I have unlimited lighting... and when t he wheel stops (think stop lights or butt break) I have about 5 minutes of "stand light".

On the back I mounted two, yes two Cateye TL-LD1000's   I've had cars come up, roll their window down and say they could see my from a mile back.  That is what I like... Be seen.

The wheel with the hub built in along with the two front lights set me back something like $575, and the two taillights (redundency) costs something like $60 for the two.

I also have an additional backup... I use a Petzl LED light mounted with velcro to my helment.  With this I can read cue sheets, fix a #%!* tire and see road signs.  It has been worth every single dollar for being able to be seen and to be able to see.

What do you use to light yourself up while riding your recumbent?

I'm researching options so wonder what others do to make sure they are visible.  Getting lights onto the top of my helmet has been my priority and I'm trying to make it so I'm visible from more than just the front and back.  Topeak has an interesting light that isn't designed for helment use (their "UFO" light) that has a circle of 10 LEDs.  I'm comparing that with Dinotte's lamp that has white LEDs shining forward and red LEDs shining back.  Any other good options out their?

night rider Moab, $600 but worth it. 40 watts of flame blowing light up front, and the rear is bright enough to be seen in the bright son. One charge last 12 hours on full power. I have done entire 24 hours endurance rides with just this one light. No reload hand off or anything one light. Flashers on the rear, reflective tape everywhere, rear triangle, and a flag on dangerous roads. That's how I ride at night.

Hi--

I purchased a used strada last week and am just getting to know it. It
came with the traditional 2-section seat and I'm thinking I'll want to
switch to the hardshell style sometime in the near future. I know a
lot of people upgrade from the Euromesh to the lighter-weight carbon.

I'm not ready for carbon yet...but if someone does have an old Euromesh
hardshell seat sitting around, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!

The first edition of the f5's were indeed shorter. Current ones 2008 as Zach mentioned have been stretched. They are also Monotube, whereas the original F5's had a trussed frame. I think the originals were around a 42 inch wheelbase. One of my good friends has an original F5, nice bike and it handles a bit quick at speed.
In the Recumbent world, great designs are oft imitated. Sometimes it takes a couple attempts to get it right.

Maybe it was the guy I was passing, it just looke way short. Ran
across a guy on an F5 awhile back on a ride. Maybe it was a Vision that
I'm thinking about. Anyway, I still prefer the Corsa, probably because
I own one. :)

I measured the wheelbase on a 2008 size large F5 at 1180 mm and a
2008 size large Corsa at 1160 mm. The the F5 has a 20 mm longer
wheelbase than the Corsa.

I have a Classic Corsa and have ridden an older F5. The Classic has a 55
up front so its got a higher top speed. I had an 11-34 on the back.

The Strada has a longer wheelbase so it will be more stable and smoother
ride than the F5 on a decent. The Classic is the most comfortable ride
I've ever had, even with the CF seat.

Both are great bikes and you won't go wrong with either, but I'd give an
edge to the Strada.

Am considering buying one of these. Have been riding an older (2001)
RANS Rocket for the past few years and am pleased with it - would like
something faster.

if anyone has evaluated and compared these two or purchased either, or
has tips for me please share.

Thanks in advance for your input.

That a recumbent racer might complete RAAM, noted as the hardest
sporting event in the world, will be a big feather in the cap
of "Recumbency". And John Sclitter is doing it on a Bacchetta!!

As of 8:30 EST , after 3,000 miles John is tied with the leader in
the other solo (50 to 59 age) group. They both checked into Time
Station 51 with 10 days 19:59 riding time.

A hundred miles to go. Will JS be the first RAAM racer to complete
RAAM on a recumbent. I'm hop'n so.

The expense for this undertaking are huge and if you would like to
contribute to help defray that cost, here's the link:

Someone just posted on the Bacchetta Bikes forum some reasons why he
was contributing. They struck a nerve with me, thus this post.

My $50 contribution is in the pot - and for many reasons.

1) Because of the amazing effort and the contribution that you are
making to recumbent bicycle racing by riding RAAM solo.
2) For designing the greatest bike I have ever put my butt on.
3) Because John and his crew care about people. John and the
Bacchetta family take the time and effort to reach out to people in a
way that most companies neglect. Thank you for being so attentive to
so many. I have experienced that personal touch and it is nice to
have a way to say thank you.

OK - I am starting to sound sentimental and mushy. Kick some more
butt and get to that finish line! (Chrissy)

Try contacting Bacchetta directly and see if they will release the
production date from the serial number.

I carry my recumbent on a roof rack, just like a DF bike. The only thing I do is take off the seat, it acts as an air brake if you don't.

Performance Bike sells a rack the Xport flatbed that is great for recumbent's. I have had one for years and they are not expensive
