I ride a Strada, the following represents my experience in town dealing
with traffic controls.
For short commutes in heavy traffic, doing without clips is possible,
but I would not do it. Clips just deliver too much efficiency and I
don't have to waste energy keeping my feet up on the pedals.
I recommend the BeBop pedals because the clip is flush in the shoe
(sandal for me) so you don't have all sorts of problems walking on them.
Seems to be two schools of thought on feet down at lights. One school
is to leave one foot clipped and the other on the ground. On my
recurve mesh laid 'way back this caused me discomfort, and the Artie
Johnson fall when my leg cramped ended that route for me. The second
school is to unclip both feet, being sure to gear 'way down as you come
to a stop. I often push off with both feet for a bit of movement, then
raise my feet quickly while laying back, and start pedaling with the
raised crank first.
I make no effort to clip in until I have raised my speed and geared up
one or two gears. I keep my soles positioned where the clips are just
under the pedal (usually) however, should I miss and accidently clip in
this is no bad thing.
Always be sure and come to a complete stop at all traffic signs ;<)

Thomas, Welcome to the group. You didn't mention how tall you are or what your Xseam measurement is. A Strada with a Euroseat would be your best choice. The...

... Yeah, but once you get to where you lift or pull because you're running clipless all the time, it's harder to spin on platforms. I try to sprint with...
I like to put my feet down at stops and I've gotten into the habit, good or bad, of pushing off with my feet and swinging them up to the pedals to start. I...
... I'm pondering platform pedals, so I have more range of foot placement. I don't tend to pedal one-footed, but I do rest my feet when coasting, and I do...
... This is not very sexy but neither am I ;-). I never have a problem using old BMX Beartrap Pedals coupled with Power Grip Straps. Just get on and ride. ...

... The pedals I have now are platform one side and cleat the other, the platform having a sort of serrated edge. But the platform pedals I am thinking of are...
Concerning clipless pedals and my Giro, I like more float than is offered by SPD. I tried Speedplay Frogs but I had an awful time trying to unclip quickly and ...
... It depends on why you had trouble unclipping quickly and easily from the Frogs. Was it a matter of force required? Or that you can release only to the...
I was having problems unclipping the Speedplay frogs with the crankarm at its furthest position (leg extended). The toe of my shoe would strike the crankarm as...

They have those pedals that have both, that might be your best compromise for now, that is what I have on my Giro. I have gotten pretty good at track standing...
... I gear down and keep my right foot clipped and the right crank at 12 o'clock or slightly closer to me. Makes for easy starts. I also do one foot drills on...
I can't help but wonder if those without cleats are putting much push and pull on the pedals. Admittedly, if you are coasting along, and not racing, cleats...
... It's all about efficiency. You can't pull with your foot if it's not attached to the pedal somehow. I don't know about you, but I don't hop on my bike to...
... The people who use platform pedals with pegs that engage in the tread say this isn't a problem but I too am dubious I want more foot position on the pedal...

There is some rotational play when you install the frog cleats. On an MTB I would adjust them such that when my foot was in a neutral position, it was hard...
