Hi,
3 Bacchettas and two trikes showed up for today's 200 K Brevet today. It was
very cold with a high of 43 degrees with winds out of the northwest in the
morning which switched to northeast after noon.
The first half of the Brevet we headed north and west into the head wind for
over 60 miles. Unfortunately when we headed back we had a wind switch out of
the northeast to deal with. So it was cold icy winds for all of the day
except for when the route headed south for about 25 miles where we had a
nice tail wind. That was the only time it was nice so we had cold icy, brisk
headwinds for 100 miles. This really took a toll on speed for the day.
Out of the 5 top finishers two were on Bacchetta's and that really got the
attention of the event organizers! 10% plus of the riders were on
recumbents. There were 49 riders overall. The event organizers were just
amazed at the turn out considering the poor weather and the growing numbers
of recumbents on these rides.
Myself, Jim Johnson and Keith Santiago were on Bacchetta's. We all received
many positive comments about our machines which is a big change over years
past for me. We are becoming accepted in the ultra community and quite a few
people expressed interest in the Bacchetta Aero.
I have to congratulate JJ for his great performance today. He had a HUGE
improvement in his time over last year and was the biggest surprise of the
day!
Congrat's JJ!
Kevin
