Stock spec is BB5. Jenn's bike has them, and when they get worn, they'll be replaced with BB7s.

I haven't gone to garage to verify that the brakes on my wifes bike are bb5's but her calipers have an adjustment to keep the brakes from dragging on the rotors and if you have them set wrong, they will limit the force they can apply and therefore create just the behaivior you are describing.
