I'm looking at getting a 1911, but need some help.

I was thinking about Springfield, but wanted to get some feedback first.

I want it to be inexpensive and upgradeable. By inexpensive, I mean
under $600-700. And by upgradeable I mean lot's of after market
changes available. I know, I know, the very nature of the 1911 is
about the interchangeable parts. I want to use it out of the box for
target shooting (not competitively yet) and as a second defense gun in
my house (so accuracy is important out of the box. I have small hands,
and don't know if there are any drawbacks to the different sizes. Let
me know what you think.

Dennis
