daylight savings has come and gone, so let's try (again) to be "Knight

Let's meet at the BSC parking lot @ 6:15. This will give us some street lights

opportunity to join in.

As I look into the Southies, I see snow. Temps are rising presently. Bad
combination for a nite ride this Friday evening. Keep your lights plugged in,
however. Perhaps we'll get a free more opportunities in the next few weeks.

Hello All,
If the weather cooperates next Friday, I'm thinking about the possibility of
putting some lights on the bike and going for a ride in the South Hills.
If it works out, would anyone be interested in joining me and making it a group
venture? If so...when's a good time to start?...where's a good place to

Chad, Sounds good to me. I am good to go. Schedule is free and flashlight's ready to go on the helmet. hahahaha

Good meeting.
Attendees included myself, Chris Dexter, Jeffrey Hamilton, Joseph Hamilton &
Russell Gates. If was informally decided that there were not enough attendees
to constitute a quorum, so we opted to drink beer & eat pizza instead. This
notwithstanding, the following resolutions were considered and, as a result,
adopted into the record...
-This weekend's weather is gonna stink.
-Bullman's Pizza is good.
-Jeff's beard is better than Joe's beard.
-The tentative date for our next Unravel the Scratchgravel MTB race is Sunday,
May 23rd, 2010. And, we're adding a lap this year.
There being no further need for discussion, we adjourned.
See ya' next month.

Lost Eric G. and Dave after the first lap
and a half and could not fill the gap. I was happy to be in third until my
chain fell off on the third lap of the first hairpin switchback. I switched
gears at the wrong time and lost the chain .After putting my chain back on, I
landed behind a slower rider (I think Lisa Curry) for a while. That was just enough
time to lose my third place finish. Lost it by 30 seconds at the end.
But that is what is great about racing and
I learn something new every time. It is all about the experience and just going
out there and having fun. Next year I know what I need to work on and every
year I learn a little more. I especially need to work harder in preparation of
the Butte 50.
Thanks,
Joe Hamilton

Kyle, the course was fast and furious on Sunday. The
dry weather made for a dusty and loose course, but also fast. The route
was in the opposite direction as last year, so the rock was in the
"easy" direction and the climbing was longer and more
sustained. But I think the lap times are actually a bit faster this
way. I had a good start but even though I was really going hard I didn't
quite make the lead group to the rock so I was caught behind some timid rock
scalers. But as a group of 3 riders dismounted in front of me to run up
and around the rock, I accelerated and blasted over it passing two of them in
the process. I had a good first lap and passed a couple more people on
technical sections and I think I was in 4th or 5th position at the end of lap
one. Unfortunately, I felt some cramps coming on in my hamstrings when I
got to the long flat section and I had to soft pedal it after being passed by
Ben Elias from Muleterro. I was behind Ben in this section on lap one and
on lap one I easily held his wheel on this section, but I watched him get a gap
on me that I couldn't do anything about because I was nursing the legs. I
slugged a bunch of my water/electrolyte drink, took some Hammer Gel, and just
kept the legs moving and by the top of the climb on the second lap the
crampiness was gone. In the meantime Randy Beckner caught me right before
the climb. I teased him because he got by right before the climb, but
then he botched the tight switchback at the start of it and I cleared it only
to bump into his rear wheel and I had to stop and wait for him to go. Then
he started climbing and you can imagine how fast he disappeared from my
sight. Third lap felt good again and I tried to catch someone, anyone,
but I was alone the rest of the race. I did beat my previous 3 lap time
for this direction by about 12 minutes! That was from 3 years ago,
though. Everyone else from Helena
was flying too. Joe was just off the podium, Chad had a very
fast time as well, and Andy Tocke won the singlespeed race.
It would have been great to have you there! I
shared your Dakota 5-O report with the team and i keep getting feedback on how
fun that seemed. There may be a group from Helena headed there next year! Keep in
touch.
I think I may be able to pull off a Moab trip. We
could also do that Mah Dah Hey if you change your mind. We could leave early
Friday and then come back on Monday. That would be two full days of riding Moab.
Hello All,
The date & time which works best for our cyclocross training camp with Scott
Herzig is Saturday, Sept. 19th @ 4:00. Meet in the fields at the YMCA.
Scott wanted to emphasize that you DO NOT need a 'cross bike to attend the
clinic. A mountain bike will work for the skills & techniques he's gonna show
us.
Everyone is invited. All skill levels encouraged. Russ, please feel free to
extend an invite to our friends at the GDC.
Hope to see ya' there.

Some of you have mentioned some interest in joining the growing ranks of cyclocross racing. When I mentioned this to Scott Herzig (Team Velo) today, he said he'd be interested and willing to offer a skills race clinic to any team members of BSC. If you're one of these that plan to race, or are interested in at least learning some skills and techniques from one of the experts in this area, get back to me with some possible dates and times that would work for you. We'd have to work around Scott's schedule, but it's pretty cool that he's offering this opportunity.
Have a nice weekend.
