The trail maintenance at Palmer this Saturday will be on the
Templeton Trail - LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED by King's Chef Diner.
E-Mail Phil Yearsley (phil@...) if you plan to attend so
they'll have enough food to go around.
This is the latest message from Phil:
Greetings!
First of all let me say hello to all the new members of the group.
The list just keeps getting bigger.
Second, just a note to let you know that Jim is moving the web site
to a different provider. There may be some hiccups during the move
with access to the site and with the email. Hopefully it will be
a smooth transition. It shouldn't affect the list any.
The Cheyenne Canon trail work went well, and the park and rec guys
are finishing the work there. A new trail head fence and sign are
in place, along with trail improvements below the section that we
built.
We had 37 people show up for work in Ute Valley Park. Ute Valley
really seems to bring people out. Why is that? Anyway, we got some
good trail work done. Thanks to Larry and Dan for helping lead
the crews. I haven't gotten any feedback about that work yet.
The next work day is THIS Saturday, August 17 at 8:00 am in Palmer
Park. For you racers out there, this will be the last opportunity
through Medicine Wheel to earn your paydirt points, and yes we
will be working for five hours. Work will proceed along the
Templeton Trail beyond where we worked last time.
The King's Chef diner will be providing lunch for all the attendees
of this work day. So if you are coming, PLEASE LET ME KNOW so that
I can have enough food available for everyone.
The numbers: We have volunteered over 300 hours of trail work
this year. We have given away about $750 worth of merchandise
and gift certificates for those of you who volunteer.
The last IMBA newsletter stated that they use figures from $10.00
to $17.00 per hour for the value of donated trail work. That
amounts to a considerable gift from mountain bikers to the trails
in Colorado Springs. What we do does matter.

Phil Yearsley

Notes: Still working out the details of this trip.
We'll ride a FANTASTIC trail on Saturday, including parts of the Colorado Trail...possibly staying the night in Keystone and riding the 'gravity runs' on Sunday.
Keystone is charging only $8.00 for lift tickets!!
I will be out of town for the Keystone "gravity" trip - there were no
volunteers for a ride leader...
We'll pick back up with the Weekly Summer Sunday rides NEXT Sunday
the 18th.
See you next weekend,
Keith

Two options for this Sunday and one request for help...
We're planning a quick trip up to Keystone to hit the "gravity train". If you
are interested in heading up with us, let me know via reply to this message.
We'll leave Sunday morningish and hit the trails at Keystone (about 2 hours
drive), this is all about gravity, taking the ski lifts up and riding back down.
The lifts tickets are a mere $8.00 each. Figure gas, a bit of food and the
tickets - a pretty dirt cheap thrill ride Sunday.
The 5:30 Weekly Summer Sunday ride at Palmer Park is still on...BUT I'm looking
for a volunteer to "lead" the pack for the ride since I'll be tied up with the
Keystone trip. If you would like to lead this ride let me know via reply to
this message.
Thanks!

C Ya bright and early!
Keith
David and I couldn't make the Monday ride due to company in town but we did
get out there on Sunday. We arrived about 3 p.m. as it was lightly raining.
We were a little worried about lightning but decide to give it a go figuring
we could turn back if it started pouring. We made it up Buckhorn in under
40 minutes which we felt was a real accomplishment after losing a lung there
the last time I tried it! Got to the top and David took the lead on his
Specialized FSR which was the first time he was able to be there with his
full suspension ride. The top was very sloppy with a lot of loose gravel
that made it difficult to go fast without fearing you were going to get
launched off the track. Down the trail a ways it did firm up and we were
able to pick up the pace. David was loving it on his FS, managing to beat
his old man to High Road by a good 45 seconds. We rode down High Road since
we were parked up top of Hunt Falls and didn't relish biking up Gold Camp
what with all the knuckleheaded 4x4ers tearing down the road. David did
talk me into dropping him off at the Chutes while I had to drive down and
pick him up. :( He tried to talk some cute girls from Iowa into riding the
Chutes with him but no joy. They were a bit worried when he caught with
them on Gold Camp doing over 30 mph! Going down the Chutes at full tilt,
David almost became a hood ornament on a dirt bike coming UP the chutes.
Turns out he was a downhiller from California and was using the motor bike
to get to his truck at the top. Idiots abound, but he did have a nice
Ellsworth Aeon. Overall a nice ride and I'm so glad the National Forest is
re-open!!
Eric & David Todd
The Playground is open kids!
The Pike National Forest Re-Opens tomorrow, Friday the 19th of July
after being closed for nearly a month...
My weekend is packed - so how about a Captain Jacks ride Monday after
work?
Meet at 5pm at the parking lot above Helen Hunt falls, drive up
Cheyenne Canyon, continue just past Helen Hunt falls and park in the
dirt lot...this is an intermediate to advanced ride with moderate
exposure and a hefty climb at the start.
Thanks to all of you that came out to ride last Sunday! Fun stuff
with some newbies and some "old trail warriors"...
This will be a regularly weekly ride - whoever shows, we'll tailor
the ride on the spot to ability levels...even split up if necessary!
5:30pm Every Sunday through the end of September...as sunset allows.

filling up with events, rides, etc...
