This one Is mine.
Rivendell "standard" blue 61 cm frame, fork and Ultegra headset for sale.
Slight, touched-up scratch on the cream-colored steerer tube, and a slight
amount of chainsuck on the chainstay. I bought this one to transplant the
gruppo onto my orange (!) Atlantis, hence the sale.
I will consider also selling the 46 cm Noodle bars, Nitto Technomic 10 cm
stem, Shimano brake levers and bar-end shifters, Tektro interruptors, cotton
tape w/ twine and shellac and cables as a unit. That said, I'm not going to
"give them away."
     Buyer to pay shipping.
I will pack the frameset up in a smaller-than-average box to defray the s &
h.
     No camera, so no pics.
A great ride, and as I await the day of transplantation, I've fallen in love
with it, but it just ain't orange! Ergo, it's gotta Go.

Not mine, posting for a friend...

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Reed Kennedy <atinytree@...>
Date: Apr 11, 2005 3:55 PM

I ended up with a Rivendell one size larger than I should actually be
riding, so I'm now looking to either trade my 65cm Redwood for a
63/64cm bike or to sell it and purchase something in that smaller
size.

The bike is a standard Redwood build plus bar tape. No pedals or
saddle unless you really need 'em, in which case we'll talk. The bike
has seen around 200-300 miles and is in great shape with the exception
of a scratch on the right chainstay.

I paid $1550 for it, so of course I'd happily sell it for that. I
don't think that's totally unreasonable since current Rivs cost so
much more, but then again it is a used bike, so if I don't get much
interest I'll probably start by knocking $100 off and then go from
there.

A local buyer would be great, otherwise I'd want to have it
professionally packed.

Anyone interested?

Cheers,
Reed Kennedy

Pics on site, but they're dark. Seller states that the bike has less than 200
miles on it since he bought it new. And No, he won't sell the XO-1. Not mine.

PAYPAL ONLY********PAYPAL ONLY********PAYPAL ONLY*****PAYPAL ONLY

This auction is for an '89 RB-2 . 51 1/2cm with 53cm top tube, both
measured center to center. 4130 Triple butted , lugged, cromoly.

I am the second owner. The first owner was a college gal who went away
to school and left it in the garage, so it was nearly new when I
bought it. Never abused or crashed, with normal scratches and chips of
a bike this age, but no dings, dents or anything serious. Most
scratches are on drive side chainstay and the "leaning" side of the
top tube. It still looks very nice, never crashed and the frame is
very straight.

Has the Red/White partial candy cane stripe and "Synergy" on the top
tube. All the writing is that attractive script, rather than the block
letters, which came the next year. Decals are in good shape.

Front and rear derail, Brake calipers, Hubs, are factory Exage.

Suntour Compe w/triple chainrings, 7 speed Shimano freewheel. Headset
is prob. generic Shimano.

Original Wolber wheels. Tires have quite a few miles left, but will
need replacing if you ride a bunch. Rear tire is a semi knobby.

Practically new Nitto Dirtdrop stem, Moustache bars and Suntour
barcons. Double wrapped black cotton tape, that has faded to gray.
These parts alone cost well over 100 bucks.

Brake levers are those great, slotted DiaCompe Gran Compe . These are
the hard to find,"compact" model that have a graceful curve, much
closer to the bar for easy access to riders with small hands or short
fingers. The gum hoods are still usable, but dry and cracking
substantially, and could stand replacing. Part of the reason is that
they have to stretch quite a lot to accomodate the long, sweeping bend
of the moustache bar.

No pedals (they are pictured, but the pedals are NOT included) or
saddle (Oh, I could give you something serviceable, if you really need
them, but they wouldn't be what you want anyhow).

Please do not bid if you are not prepared to use PAYPAL!! Payment is
expected within 3 days of auction close.

FedEx ground shipping $49/59/65 depending on your location(See
Shipping Map Photo for your location).

Howdy folks.

I need to sell my Bontrager CX, size small that I
bought as an assembled-but-never-sold bike from a
bikeshop. I have never completed the build, so at
most it has been test ridden a few times. I recently
traded for a Mikkelsen that is nearly a complete
functional overlap to the Bonty. I am also nearing
the front of the build queue for my Matt Chester
29er/cross fixee/SS which is only 1/2 paid for so far
and with no parts stashed yet. My perception is that
there are not many Bontrager CXs out there, especially
the size Small. For $550, you get the sweet Steelman
straight blade fork, a new black Stronglight Delta
headset, Ritchey alloy cable hanger, Titec-Bontrager
seatpost and Titec stem. Similar currently available
bikes (from Kelly or Steelman for instance) are
probably close to a grand and let's face it KB is
(was?) cool ;^) See the geometry specs here:
tm>.
I can send or post pictures, just ask.

Thanks, Doug

Does anyone have a pair of 40 hole, 27" rims he/she would be willing
to sell? Ideally, I'd like to get something along the lines of the
old "Type 58" rims, but I'm open to other possibilities.

The new project beast is arising! I've got the 27"/68cm Fuji Del Rey,
circa ~1978 or so. I've got the 40 spoke tandem hubs. I've got the
Nashbar "trekking" handlebars. I've got my old ratcheting Suntour
barcon shift levers. Yes, the bike is going to look like something
Dr. Frankenstein put together, but it's going to be a fabulous rig for
getting around town while towing my daughter in the child trailer.

I'll post some pics as I go along, although I might send some
"purists" into a state of shock given what a mis-mash the bike will
end up being.

Sincerely,

Forbes B-Black

perusal and amusement. Enjoy :>)

Some of the following is true:

Last week, my friend Nancy and I rode from Rockridge to RBW. I wanted
to be the first one on my block to visit the place, so here's a report:

Walnut Creek is a lovely little cow town nestled in the foothills below
Mt. Diablo. Driving cars there is completely impractical and unnecessary
(largely due to the livestock being shepherded through the streets and
alleys downtown), so everybody uses donkey carts or old scooters or
bicycles instead. Everywhere you go you hear the braying of sheep and
the click-click-click of 3-speeds shuttling to and fro, and the bustle
of open-air markets, and the laughter and singing from the public houses
and cafes scattered throughout town, and little children frolicking in
the underbrush, and the gentle burbling of Walnut Creek itself.

Rivendell Bicycle Works is located in a little stone castle just outside
of town, at the end of a long, twisty dirt road rolling gently through
pastures and vineyards and redwood groves. You know when you're getting
close when you can hear the singing and laughing of the elves.

They all sing as they work, sewing together the Baggins bags and the
WoolyWarm jerseys, and gathering honey and wax from the unionized
beehives just outside. They sing all the time. This is one of their
favorite songs:

We are the little elves of Rivendell
We sew all the bags and test all of the bells! [Ding!]
And sing and laugh and dance all day
Braze the frames and pack them care-full-lay
To be painted and polished by Joseph Bell
And given that happy new-bicycle smell
And sent to new owners to be ridden away
Away away to faraway lands
Bicycular people with bicycular hands
And feet and legs and elbows and friends
Who join them on their local errands
Riding bicycles built by the little elves
The little elves of Rivendell.

...Oh....
We are the little elves of Rivendell... (etc.)

A dragon in the basement--a very friendly and happy dragon, the shop
steward with a fondness for baked beans and onions and ale (though
never enough ale to compromise quality, structural integrity or
alignment, at least during working hours)--provides the flame for
brazing the frames together, and occasionally joins the elves in a round
of their song, or steps out discreetly for a smoke.

RBW's showroom is sumptuous, with the aroma of leather and wool and
oilcloth and beeswax and fresh tube air. There are maidens peeling
grapes and waving palm fronds, and a small ensemble of musicians playing
happy folk and bluegrass music in the corner, but you don't really
notice anything but the bicycles, which of course speak for themselves.

My blood sugar was a little low by the time we got there, and all the
lugs and shellac was making me a little stupid, and anyway I was a
little embarrassed to have shown up there on a TIGed aluminum bike (a
Giant OCR3 I'd rented in Marin), so all I could do was mumble and
stammer and point and say things like, "Ooh! Atlantis!" or, "Oh!
Saluki!" or, "Golly! Cool! Nitto!" (Sterling Hada was very patient.)
Occasionally one of the elves would glare at my aluminum zoot-bike
propped up in a corner, and I'd shoo them away, saying, "Look: It's a
rental, OK? A RENTAL!"

I test-rode a 58cm Atlantis, and it was wonderful. I couldn't really
judge the fit very well, but its ride was very comfortable and lively,
and it was very stable. If I'd had the presence of mind I would've tried
out a Saluki, too, but I didn't have any presence of mind at all at that
point, so I didn't.

It was getting near closing time and I felt like the right thing to do
would be to get out of their hair and let them go on their after-work
ride--and get some eats--so we bid a sad adeau, and listened politely as
the elves sang us a goodbye song, which went like this:

Goodbye, goodbye, you silly man
Who rides a bike made from a tin can
And tells us you rented it up in Marin
With no clearance for fenders, we see now with chagrin.
Someday we'll kiss you and give you big hugs
The day you switch over to steel and to lugs.

...and headed back toward Rockridge, that damn elven song playing in our
heads the whole way.
