"Richard Hidalgo - signed a 5-year, $45 million contract. His contract
includes a $2 million signing bonus, payable in four equal payments on
1/15/01, 4/1/01, 1/15/02, and 1/15/03. Hidalgo will earn $3 million in
2001, $5 million in 2002, $8 million in 2003, and $12 million in 2004.
The final season of the deal, 2005, is a club option worth $15 million
with a $2 million buyout if it is not exercised. In addition, the
contract allows for up to an additional $2 million if Hidalgo wins
certain awards."
