Hey.
I'm fairly new to this area and live in Brevard. I usually do 1-3 long runs
every month (depending upon races) and the milage varies considerably (between
10-30 miles). However, my pace is comfortably slow @ 11-13 min/mile. I run both
trails and roads. I would welcome some company if anyone likes this kind of
pace. alex morton
Hey guys...as the weather has gotten colder and it is getting darker sooner, I
am wondering if anyone knows of a nice, well lit location to run after dark...I
am not a huge fan of headlamps, but still want to be outside running if
possible. I know we can use the HS tracks, but I dont know if they are lit at
night...I would love to hear some suggestions if anyone has any. Thanks
J
Hey Paul,
If you don't get any takers, consider wandering over to Bethel for the 1/2M this
Saturday. You'll find folks at your pace, it's pretty flat, beautiful, and you
can tack on a 3 & 1/2 mile out and then back at the end of the race.
either way, enjoy the run!

Hi,
I am going to be doing my last long run on October 10 in preparation for an
upcoming race. I would like to do about twenty miles at a nine to nine and a
half minute pace. I would prefer to go early in the morning and keep the course
as flat as possible or even downhill.
If anyone is interested please let me know.

Due to trail conditions during the latest deluge of rainfall, the Bent Creek SAS
5K and MTB races are being postponed until Saturday, Oct 3, 2009. All race
times still apply. Please forward this to anyone who may be interested.
Jane, come on out one Tuesday or Thursday night and talk to Dick or Millicent
Duccini, the group leaders. They will add you to the email list. Tom Kingsbury
is usally the one who emails it but with him now coaching the BRP I don't know
if he will continue to do it. It's your choice either you pick coming out to
Bent Creek or Beaver Lake. Beaver Lake is the one I chose because Bent Creek
seems to be more advanced, longer runs. We meet at 8AM on Saturday mornings at
the Beaver Lake Library, I think the address is like 1030 Merrimon. We stretch
and then run around Beaver Lake, cross the street and run up into the hilly
neighborhood next to Beaver Lake.
Hope this helps. You really just show up and it takes off from there.

I log my runs and get information from a group of knowledgeable runners at www.runningahead.com. The site is free, the community is very helpful and supportive. Give it a shot!

I would say in an effort to assist the Citizen-Times in figuring out exactly how many runners the course can manage, we need additional runners on the course, registered or not. Then, the C-T will know exactly how many runners the limit should be set for in the future.
This is really the only way to know what the limit should be set at for future events. So, we can't let the C-T down in this their time of need.

Ran the "new" course past Saturday and it's not that new...plus, given all the races in AVL, there aren't many secret neighborhoods we haven't seen...problem areas aren't going to change if there were 1,200, or 1,300 or 1,500 runners (we'll be spread out and won't all arrive at Beaverdam and the same time :)...a time limit is appropriate, and the course should "roll-up" following the last/time limit runners...I guess I just dislike race cut-off numbers, especially in a smaller race like this. We should encourage everyone to run! Serenity...

I checked the blog, but am still not satisfied. If the point is to see if the course can handle 1000 people, why is there no wait list? It seems like a wait list could be handled pretty easily by saying it was in-person only, that wait listed runners pay cash only, and tell them they're running under the name the bib is attached to. Then, after the race, they can change the identity by turning in their bib with their real name. You don't know if your race can hold 1000 people if you have 900 runners, capiche?

I would just think that the half marathon would be able to have at least as many runners as a 5K especially since everyone knows that at least 75-100 of the entries will not even show up on raceday.
I think an idea would be to have 100 entries on race morning so that the field would actually be 1,000. Just an idea.

And Bethel is a lot more forgiving than the ACT 1/2! lol.
Josh, if I can't do the ACT, I'll let you know, but as of now, it's on my list.

Does anyone wonder why the half is capped at 1,000 but yet the Bele Chere 5K is uncapped? Surely, the Half could expand to 1500 .... like the 5K was almost at last month.
Just a thought.

My team still needs 2 runners for the relay. They are legs 3 and 9. They are 2
of the easiest legs of the relay. I saw in an earlier post that the Asheville
Citizen Times Half marathon is full so if you are looking to run a great race
consider the relay. It is alot of fun.
For more information you can contact me at (828) 582-8047.
Thank you,

I was planning on running the Citizen-Times Half Marathon, but had to wait until
I got a paycheck to sign up. Got paid today and found out the race was full.
If anyone is signed up but unable to run, I'll gladly pay you for your entry fee
and sub in. This was going to be my first Half Marathon and I was really
looking forward to it. I guess that's what I get for paying bills before paying
for race entries. I mean, really, what was I thinking?
TJ,

Hi TJ,
wished I had seen this sooner. Dennis, Greg Robert and I did a practice ACT 1/2
run this morning. Check out Dennis' blog at CarolinaRunner.com and see his posts
there.
